Northrop Grumman is seeking an Intellectual Property Paralegal to join the Intellectual Property,   Technology, & Information team within its Law Department, working from the company’s Northern Virginia location. The paralegal will report to the Director and Corporate Counsel for Intellectual Property and Information Governance and will work as a critical part of a team assisting IP legal counsels and collaborating with IP paralegals with intellectual property (IP) capture, review, and docketing, outside counsel management, budget and invoice review and processing, metrics, reporting, and administrative support.

The paralegal’s responsibilities may include, among other things: 

Supporting IP Committees with invention disclosure processing, disposition, and managementAssisting IP counsel with managing outside counsel handled patent/trademark filingsSupporting IP counsel on transactional matters, including IP licensing administration and managementCollaborating with sector business partners and providing requested information regarding matters in IP portfolioWorking with Contract Administrators to meet government contract requirements regarding IPCollaborating with other company IP paralegals on managing maintenance fee/annuitiesMaintaining due dates and coordinating foreign filing decisionsSetting up matters in IP management software and billing systemsReviewing and confirming outside counsel invoicesPreparing financial reports for requested business sectorsSupporting recurring metrics and reportingWorking on trademark renewals and use declarations, specimen collectionPerforming preliminary trademark searches using US, EP, and Int’l databasesCollaborating with and providing general support for patent and trademark activities to assigned IP counselCollaborating with other company IP paralegals and IP portfolio management practice leader (attorney) in IP asset management and enterprise portfolio management operation and strategic mattersPerforming administrative duties to facilitate department operations, including managing correspondence and calendars, scheduling arrangements, and filing expenses

Basic Qualifications:

High school diploma and at least 4 years of relevant experience (law firm or corporate legal department)Expertise in Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), SharePoint (or equivalent), and document review platformsExperience using complex electronic databases, such as budget analysis and billing systems (e.g., Serengeti Legal Tracker or equivalent)Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express complex ideas clearly to various audiences across a large organization and with government agenciesAbility to execute tasks and projects independentlyDemonstrated ability to build and foster effective, collaborative relationships with othersUS citizenship

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with IP docketing policies and procedures, and proficiency with IP management softwareFamiliarity with USPTO proceduresBachelor’s DegreeAt least 4 years of experience (law firm or corporate legal department) specializing in intellectual property

Primary Level Salary Range: $68,600.00 - $114,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
