Essential functions (job duties):
Position Purpose
The Instructional Technology Designer collaborates with subject matter experts at the Mike Ilitch School of Business to plan and design high-quality online course experiences. This position will draw on experience and expertise in education, instructional technology, and learning management systems to facilitate the creation of standardized, accessible courses aligned with the Mike Ilitch School of Business’s teaching and learning mission while ensuring compliance with standards defined by AACSB and HLC to support accreditation efforts.
The Instructional Technology Designer will serve as a subject matter expert in assessment, instruction, and pedagogy. This position will support the Educational Technology and Assessment Associate Director and the Dean’s Office staff in designing and building an exciting new online program focused on the intersection of Public Health and Business as well as assist in designing the overall process that subject matter experts will follow to deliver high-quality content on time. This position will manage course creation with a subject matter expert, serving as a project manager to keep the project on track and meet all relevant deadlines. They will meet with stakeholders, their manager, and Dean’s office staff to keep them informed of the course design status. This position will report to the Educational Technology and Assessment Associate Director.

Instructional Design:
+ Design and implement online courses in collaboration with subject matter experts.
+ Assess content delivered by Subject Matter Experts as appropriate and applicable.
+ Design and reorganize course content to improve student success.
+ Create and manage assessments.
+ Design and implement standard course templates.
+ Review courses for Accessibility compliance with WCAG 2.1.
+ Assist subject matter experts in creating engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
+ Continuously update, acquire, and apply new technology skills to instructional design practice.
+ Assist subject matter experts with using the technology to upload and convert lectures as needed for faculty for on-line distribution.
+ Assist subject matter experts with developing and implementing confidential mid-semester course evaluations / student feedback.
Consultation:
+ Serve as a subject matter expert inPedagogy, Educational Technology, Learning Managements Systems, Learning Theories, and Online Course Design.
Project Management:
+ Update Project Management tools with up-to-date information for stakeholders.
+ Design a repeatable project management process for engaging with subject matter experts.
Collaboration:
+ Meet directly with subject matter experts to coach and advise as they create content.
+ Meet directly with stakeholders to keep them informed about progress.
+ Stay up to date with modern learning theories and trends.
+ Attend Academic conferences and events focused on Learning Management Systems.
Team up with college staff to discuss and strategize around emerging concepts, such as Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Qualifications:
Education Bachelor's degree
+ Bachelor’s degree in education, Instructional Technology, Pedagogy, or a related field.
+ Master’s degree preferred.
Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
+ A minimum of 2 years in a higher education environment in Instructional Design is required.
+ Experience with instructional technology and design required.
+ Experience conducting individual teaching development consultations and facilitating change through a formalized project management process.
+ Faculty development experience with multiple audiences (e.g., tenure-track, non-tenure-track, part-time instructors, and graduate teaching assistants).
+ Experience in university assessment and/or accreditation is desired.

+ Learning Agility:Knowledge of and ability to apply learning theories, cognitive research, and educational research on teaching and learning.
+ Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to consult effectively with faculty and administrators. Capable of communicating effectively in visual, oral, and written forms and delivering engaging presentations. Capable of presenting technical knowledge to both technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Interpersonal Skills:Understand and can help others apply formative and summative models of assessment to faculty development outcome goals (e.g., programs and workshops, course and curriculum design, student learning, and related instructor professional development activities).
+ Computing Skills Knowledge:Expertise in instructional technologies for learning and course management systems, including Learning Management Systems, Online Meetings, Student Response Systems, Team Collaboration, and Multimedia.
+ Technical Knowledge:Knowledge of instructional assessment, broadly defined, including assessment for accreditation, course design, and student learning through the integration of classroom assessment into the instructional environment, program and department development, and institutional initiatives.
+ Time Management Skills:knowledge of time management techniques to manage distractions and meet targets and timelines.
+ Teamwork Skills:Knowledge and ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Ability to collaborate and engage all faculty and departments to meet instructional design objectives. Capable of maintaining good working relations.
