Job Title: Construction Inspector

Job Description

The Construction Inspector plays a critical role in supporting construction projects throughout the full lifecycle—from pre-construction and estimating through project execution, closeout, and turnover. This role performs a blend of technical, administrative, field, and project management duties, often coordinating across multiple stakeholders including designers, subcontractors, field crews, project managers, and owners. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic construction environment.

Responsibilities

Perform basic to moderately complex estimating activities, including quantity takeoffs, material pricing, and labor/equipment cost research.Develop Opinions of Probable Construction Cost and support design-build estimating efforts using Timberline or similar estimating software.Analyze historical data—purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity reports—to support future estimate development and maintain cost history.Contact subcontractors and suppliers to solicit pricing and gauge bidder interest.Participate in pre-bid site walks and contribute to Bid-Day quote tabulations.Provide technical, field, and site administrative support to project teams and field personnel.Prepare, review, and process submittals ranging from moderate to high complexity.Issue construction documents, layouts, and clarifications to field crews, and respond to field information needs.Interpret drawings/specifications for foremen and superintendents; maintain and update as-built documentation.Draft and process RFIs; support change management activities with the project manager.Coordinate delivery of materials, equipment, and subcontractor work to align with project needs.Assist with development of purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders, and client pay applications.Develop scopes of work for simple to complex project components.Perform basic surveying and verify final locations/elevations.Prepare key project documentation, including Project Execution Plans (PXPs), conforming bid documents, status reports, meeting minutes, O&M manuals, warranties, spare parts lists, and punch lists.Update project information to reflect the most current engineering and construction requirements.Assist with cost tracking, quantity tracking, and schedule reporting used for recurring project status updates.Support development of subcontractor cost/schedule evaluations and provide data for change requests, bid comparisons, and new work analyses.Develop detailed baseline schedules, including Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), activity logic, interdependencies, and duration estimates.Collaborate with project controls staff to maintain project schedules, update actual progress, adjust activity durations, and manage critical path impacts.Assist with developing Time Impact Analyses (TIA) for use in change management and claims documentation.Prepare project Quality Control Plans (QCP) for review.Review contract specifications, QC plans, submittals, drawings, and other project documents for compliance.Conduct or assist with field inspections to verify workmanship, material quality, and conformance with plans and codes.Document deficiencies, track corrective action, and maintain QA/QC reporting.May independently manage small or basic construction work packages.Facilitate project meetings with owners, subcontractors, and internal teams; prepare agendas and meeting notes.Provide guidance, mentorship, and quality review of work performed by junior staff.Assist project managers in monitoring budget performance, labor tracking, task code performance, and Estimated Cost at Completion (ECAC).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.3 years of related experience.Domestic and/or international travel may be required.Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Environment

Consultants will be working from home and/or car, providing flexibility in work location. The nature of the role may require travel, which is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and project demands.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
