Job Summary:\rAA: Nationally certified and licensed healthcare professional who provides anesthetic care under the supervision of an Anesthesiologist. Anesthetic care may be delivered in a variety of settings including but not limited to hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, endoscopy and other procedural areas, and pain treatment centers.\rCRNA: Registered nurse and nationally certified licensed healthcare provider who provides anesthetic care in a variety of healthcare settings in collaboration or under the supervision of an Anesthsiologist according to an established protocol agreement. Care may be provided in a variety of settings including but not limited to hospital, ambulatory surgical centers, endoscopy and other procedural areas and pain treatment centers.\rThe CRNA and AA will support the mission, vision, values and goals of the WellStar Health System by focusing on clinical excellence through the provision of quality, consistent, patient-centered care.\rCore Responsibilities and Essential Functions:\r1.\t Clinical Functions\ra.\tUnder the supervision of or in collaboration with an Anesthesiologist the practitioner will administer anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures.\rb.\tProvider agrees to cooperate with, participate in, and comply with, the quality assurance, risk management and peer review programs, grievance procedures and utilization control mechanisms implemented by the Medical Group and its Affiliates.\rJob duties may include but are not limited to the following:\ra.\tAdminister general anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures.\rb.\tMay initiate advanced life saving techniques as outlined by Anesthesiologist, or by protocol, as indicated by clinical scenario.\rc.\tEstablishes multi-parameter monitoring of patients prior to, during and after anesthesia or in other cute care situations. This includes ECG, direct arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas determinations, and hematocrit, in addition to the routine measurement of temperature, respiration, blood pressure and heart rate. Also, other monitoring, as may be developed for anesthesia and intensive care will be incorporated.\rd.\tManages pre and post anesthetic care, including ventilatory support of patients as assigned by Anesthesiologist.\re.\tManages ventilators and other respiratory care parameters as directed by anesthesiologist or by protocol.\rf.\tAssist in research projects as carried out by an anesthesiologist.\rg.\tInstructs others in the principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care parameters, as directed by Anesthesiologist or by protocol.\rh.\tDetermine, set up and prepare necessary drugs, supplies and equipment for the administration of anesthetics; assemble gas machine and test to insure proper functioning; ensure availability of proper type blood for emergency use.\ri.\tStudy patient records to determine probable effects of anesthetic on patient; monitor vital signs during course of procedure; take necessary action to ensure a near normal physiological status of the patient.\rj.\tPrepare patients for anesthesia to include explaining procedures and positioning patient on operating room table; record condition of patient and type of anesthetic used on patient's chart.\rk.\tAssist in moving patient from operating room to recovery area; check patient periodically and take remedial measures to alleviate unfavorable post anesthesia effects as required. Supervise and instruct student nurse anesthetists in the administration of general anesthetics; assist in evaluating clinical performance and progress; instruct residents, interns and allied health students in the procedures and techniques of anesthesiology.\rl.\tDisassemble equipment and clean work area; report necessary equipment repairs and adjustments to proper personnel.\rm.\tMaintain records of each anesthetic administered and prepare periodic reports related to activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.\rPerforms other duties as assigned\rComplies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.\rRequired Minimum Education:\rAA- Successful completion of an Anesthesiologist Assistant educational program accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Allied Health Educational Programs\rCRNA Successful completion of nurse anesthesia approved by the Council on Accreditation of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)\r\rRequired Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):\rAll certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.CAA - Cert Anesthesiologists Assist or CRNA - Cert Reg Nurse AnesthetistBLS - Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - InstructorACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days\rAdditional License(s) and Certification(s):\rRequired Minimum Experience:\rRequired Minimum Skills:\rDemonstrated leadership skills and knowledge.\rStrong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively in multi-specialty medical groups.\rExcellent communication skills verbal, written, listening, and presentation along with the confidence to favorably represent the organization in both formal and informal settings.\rA firm commitment to delivering high quality healthcare services with an unparalleled commitment to customer service as a necessary component for success.\rThe ability to operate within an organizational culture which embraces compassion, accountability, respect and excellence to support achieving the goals of the organization
