Summary CAISI is a center of AI expertise in the U.S. government. Its Partnerships team is hiring a social scientist to serve as manager for partnerships with frontier AI labs and for delivery of technical guidelines for the AI ecosystem. This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates. Responsibilities In this position, you will: Manage programs focused on AI partnerships and standardization. Negotiate and manage partnerships with frontier AI labs and other key stakeholders. Create and manage working groups of technical collaborators across organizations. Achieve consensus on matters of possible disagreement at the technological frontier. Supervise lifecycle of technical document development, including public comment campaigns and revisions. Collaborate with NIST to supervise engagements with standards-development organizations. Advise and collaborate on research projects with CAISI and industry experts. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications All applicants must submit a resume NOT TO EXCEED two pages on standard-size paper. Basic Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. ZP-0101-V: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level (ZP-IV at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as formulating and managing programs or policy issues of major scope and importance; negotiating formal partnerships with external organizations and overseeing the drafting of legal documents; serving as a technical authority to achieve consensus on controversial matters at the technological frontier; representing organizations with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
