The Blaster is responsible for operating blasting equipment to clean, prepare, and finish surfaces of parts and products within the production area. This role involves using abrasive blasting techniques to remove contaminants, scale, rust, or coatings from metal, plastic, or other materials in preparation for further processing or finishing. The Blaster is key in ensuring surface cleanliness and readiness for painting, coating, or other manufacturing processes while maintaining safety and quality standards.
ResponsibilitiesOperate blasting equipment to remove rust, paint, scale, and other contaminants from surfaces of parts and products.Prepare surfaces for painting, coating, or further production by achieving the desired finish and cleanliness.Set up and operate abrasive blasting machines, ensuring proper adjustment of pressure, nozzle size, and abrasive flow rates.Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of blasting equipment to ensure proper functioning and prevent malfunctions.Inspect blasted surfaces to ensure they meet cleanliness, roughness, and finish standards, reporting any defects or inconsistencies to the supervisor for corrective action.Follow all safety protocols when operating blasting equipment, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirators, face shields, gloves, and protective suits.Ensure proper ventilation and dust collection systems are in place to maintain a safe working environment.Maintain a clean and organized work area by regularly cleaning up abrasive materials, dust, and debris.Communicate effectively with other production team members to coordinate the flow of parts through the blasting process.Essential SkillsExperience in industrial blasting or a similar role within a manufacturing or production environment.Knowledge of blasting techniques, equipment operation, and surface preparation standards.Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and work instructions.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.Commitment to safety and adherence to all relevant safety regulations and procedures.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required.Experience in industrial painting, sanding, and paint prep.Familiarity with spray guns, paint booths, blasting, sandblasting, production, general labor, prepping, powder coating, and paint spraying.Why Work Here?Join a dynamic team where your skills will directly contribute to the production of high-quality products. Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves occasional exposure to toxic or corrosive chemicals with a moderate noise level. You will be working in a large wind turbine manufacturing plant, where safety is a priority, and proper protective gear is provided.
