Job Description

This role involves planning and executing electrical installations while ensuring compliance with specifications and local electrical codes. The position requires proficiency in measuring, cutting, assembling, and installing electrical conduits, along with wiring and equipment connections. Candidates will be responsible for testing and ensuring the safety and compatibility of electrical components.

ResponsibilitiesPlan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, ensure access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring.Prepare sketches showing locations of wiring and equipment, or follow diagrams and blueprints to ensure proper completion within walls, ceilings, and flooring.Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using tools such as saws, pipe threading machines, and conduit benders.Pull wiring through conduit with the assistance of a helper or craftsperson.Splice wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment using hand tools.Install control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.Connect power cables to equipment such as electric motors and install grounding leads.Test continuity of circuitry to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments like ohmmeters, batteries, buzzers, and oscilloscopes.Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to identify hazards and determine need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.May supervise or repair faulty equipment or systems.Essential SkillsProficient in bending 1-inch rigid conduit with precision.Ability to perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately.Skill in recognizing detail in objects or drawings and identifying slight differences in shapes or shadings.Capability to visualize flat drawings as 3-dimensional objects.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in electrical, conduit, wiring, troubleshooting, construction, and blueprint reading.Familiarity with commercial duct bank installations.Why Work Here?

Work Environment

The role is based in an outdoor construction environment at Byrd Park in Richmond. The work schedule consists of four 10-hour shifts from Monday to Thursday, with occasional Fridays as needed. Personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots, is required as you will be working in all weather elements and engaging in physical activities like bending, standing, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 lbs.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
