Job Description

What is the opportunity?

This role is an IMS System Programmer for supporting, maintaining, and optimizing IMS DB/DC systems that run critical banking applications. The role ensures system stability, performance, security, and availability across sandbox, development, test, and production environments. By resolving complex IMS incidents, performing performance analysis, managing system maintenance, and supporting modernization initiatives, this position protects business operations, reduces operational risk, and enables reliable transaction processing aligned with enterprise technology and regulatory requirements.

What will you do?

Support IMS DB/DC as an IMS System Programmer, resolving IMS transaction abends, IMS region failures, IMS Connect issues, and IMSPlex operational problemsPerform problem determination and root cause analysis using IMS PI, IMS logs, system dumps, IRLM diagnostics, and IBM toolingAnalyze and tune IMS performance using IMS PA, including transaction response times, CPU usage, database I/O, queue depths, and locking behaviorInstall, configure, and support IMS components including IMSPlex, IMS Connect, DBRC, OM, RM, SCI, IRLM, COS, and IMS CatalogManage IMS maintenance and upgrades using SMP/E, including HIPER, PE PTF and SECINT analysis, installation, and validationMonitor IMS systems using OMEGAMON and TEPS, proactively identifying performance, capacity, and availability risksProvide technical guidance to application and operations teams and participate in 24x7 on-call support for critical IMS production incidents

What do you need to succeed?

Five or more years of hands-on experience as an IMS System Programmer supporting IMS DB/DC in enterprise production environmentsStrong expertise in IMS installation, configuration, tuning, diagnostics, and IMSPlex architectureHands-on experience with IMS tools including IMS PA, IMS PI, IMS Tool Base, Fast Path Solution Pack, DB Solution Pack, and IMS Connect ExtensionsExperience with SMP/E maintenance, HIPER, PE PTF and SECINT management, and z/OS system integrationProficiency in JCL, COBOL, REXX, and Assembler for troubleshooting and automation, with strong RACF and z/OS knowledge

Nice-to-have

Experience supporting IMS Managed ACB and IMS Catalog implementationsExperience with Db2, MQ, WAS, z/OS Connect EE, and IMS modernization initiativesExperience supporting Precisely SQData for IMS database replicationExperience mentoring junior system programmers or acting as a technical SME
