Import Compliance Specialist
**Work Schedule** Standard (Mon-Fri) **Environmental Conditions** Office **Job Description** **Discover Impactful Work:** Involves comprehensive management of import activities for the company. Interacts with multiple functional areas on import-related matters. Primarily responsibility for ensuring the smooth and efficient import of goods, complying with all relevant regulations and laws. **A Day in the Life:** + Coordinate and monitor incoming international shipments. + Review import/customs documentation for accuracy and customs compliance. + Review all import invoices for approval and payment. + Track and trace shipments and provide updates to relevant parties. + Maintain communication with customs authorities for clearance of goods. + Facilitate customs release with customs broker. + Facilitate customs release using Canada self-assessment program. + Identify and resolve any shipment and import issues including clearance delays. + Audit import entries and resolve discrepancies. + Research imports for customs duties and tax exemptions. + Ensure duties and taxes are paid on time. + Manage customs compliance procedures, Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) and CARM, Canada Border and Services Agency digital initiative. + Manage and update import documentation records and maintain import product database. + Conduct restricted/denied party screening for business partners. + Determine HS classification, country of origin, valuation of goods. + Maintain work procedures (SOPs). + Interaction with multiple functional areas on import related matters. + Liaise with suppliers, freight forwarders, and customs agents/brokers. + Ensure compliance with import laws and regulations. + Adhere to the Company's Global Trade Compliance (GTC) Policy and Global Trade Compliance Management System (GTCMS). + Participate actively in Canada Border Service Agency (CBSA) customs audits, internal audits, and other significant projects as required. + Maintain Canada United States Mexico Agreement (CUSMAs) database for imported product that qualify. + Assist in budget preparation and expense management activities, as required. + Provide operational backup to Toronto import activities, as required. + Participate in PPI to continually improve processes. + Maintain a safe working environment and report potential hazards. **Keys to Success:** **Education:** + High school diploma or equivalent required. + Degree in supply chain management or relevant field an asset. **Experience:** + Minimum 3 years of experience as an import coordinator or similar role. + Minimum 3 years of experience filing Canada Export Reports using CBSA websites. + Experience using computer databases or MRP/ERP systems, preferably SAP experience in the sales & distribution, planning and shipment modules. + Experience in the pharmaceutical industry as an asset. **Equivalency:** Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered. **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** + Knowledge of import regulations, documentation, procedures and regulation. + Familiarity with the Canada Customs Tariff and possess comprehensive knowledge of HTS classification. + Demonstrate knowledge of INCOTERMS and understand the responsibilities outlined in sales contracts. + Highly organized and able to undertake and prioritize a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced environment. + Strong attention to detail, highly efficient and effective time management skills. + Excellent communication skills and negotiation skills. + Work efficiently with limited supervision. + Strong interpersonal skills. + Proven proficiency in logistics software and Microsoft Office programs. + Proficiency with the English Language. **Benefits** We offer competitive remuneration, annual incentive plan bonus, healthcare, and a range of employee benefits.
