HVAC TAB Technician
Job Description The Role (What to Expect): The HVAC Testing and Balancing Technician is responsible for testing, adjusting, and balancing HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with design specifications. This role requires hands-on use of tools to measure airflow, water flow, and system pressures, while troubleshooting imbalances and collaborating with the commissioning team to verify system readiness for handovers. Responsibilities (What You’ll Do): • Review HVAC drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and project schedules to identify testing requirements. • Track asset readiness and coordinate with other commissioning team disciplines to schedule TAB activities, ensuring equipment and access is available. • Maintain communication regarding CX timelines via Teams, emails, calls, text, etc. to appropriate stakeholders. • Perform air balancing by measuring and adjusting airflow rates, fan speeds, damper positions, and diffuser settings, adhering to proper design criteria and codes • Test system components such as AHUs, CRAHs, and exhaust systems, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency. • Execute functional performance tests on HVAC equipment to verify operation under various loads and conditions, identifying imbalances, leaks, or inefficiencies. • Complete relevant commissioning documentation and checklists in CxAlloy, logging issues and submitting RFIs as necessary. Skills and Requirements Requirements (What You’ll Bring): • 3+ years of experience in HVAC TAB. • Proficiency with TAB tools and ability to read mechanical drawings. • Prior experience with functional testing (DALT Testing, Voltage + Amp readings, Fire Damper/Handler Certifications, Thermal Controls). • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, hydronics, air distribution, and standards (SMACNA, ASHRAE 6.2.1 + 6.2.2). • Familiarity navigating GCS control systems. • Problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills. • Strong computer literacy – Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook
