A mission-critical data center in Charleston, SC is seeking a highly skilled HVAC/Mechanical Technician to support its mechanical infrastructure. This role involves maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing HVAC systems and mechanical equipment to ensure continuous uptime and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data center cooling systems, mechanical repairs, and a strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, water treatment, and airflow management.
ResponsibilitiesPerform HVAC repairs and replacements, including refrigeration circuit maintenance.Conduct motor and compressor replacements.Troubleshoot low voltage and mechanical systems.Clean and maintain heat exchangers.Repair and replace pumps and gearboxes.Perform plumbing repairs and replacements.Conduct rounds and readings to monitor system performance.Respond to and perform minor operations and emergency repairs.Operate and maintain chillers, cooling towers, CRAC units, and air handlers.Manage condenser water systems and associated chemical treatment processes.Ensure proper airflow management in raised floor environments using hot aisle/cold aisle configurations.Maintain N+1 redundancy in chiller systems to ensure full backup capability.Diagnose and repair refrigeration systems, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator components.
Essential SkillsMinimum 5 years of experience in industrial HVAC or data center mechanical systems.Must have EPA 608 certification.Strong understanding of N+1 redundancy in chiller systems.Knowledge of water treatment for condenser systems, including corrosion, solids, and microbial control.Experience with hot aisle/cold aisle airflow design.Familiarity with refrigeration cycle components and pressure dynamics.
Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC monitoring tools.Familiarity with ASHRAE standards and data center cooling best practices.Ability to work independently and respond to emergency situations.Strong communication and documentation skills.

Work Environment
The work environment includes shifts on a first-come, first-serve basis, depending on preference and need. Available shifts are Sunday/Tuesday/Wednesday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, and Tuesday/Wednesday/Saturday from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Personal protective equipment such as Type 2 hardhat, hi-vis vests, safety glasses, and steel toes are required.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
