This includes managing chillers, compressors, evaporators, condensers, ultra-low temperature (ULT) freezers, and associated electrical and mechanical equipment. You will play a key role in ensuring system reliability, energy efficiency, temperature control, and regulatory compliance through preventive maintenance, performance testing, and system solving. This role falls within the Engineering and Technical Services job function, where you’ll contribute hands-on expertise in refrigeration operations, preventive maintenance, and repairs in support of critical facility environments. **What You’ll Do:** + **Refrigeration System Operation & Maintenance:** Install, service, and maintain refrigeration and cooling systems, including walk-in freezers, refrigerated process units, chillers, ULT freezers, and DX systems. Maintain and calibrate temperature and pressure control devices, thermostats, and system sensors to ensure detailed and consistent performance. + **ULT Freezer Support:** Supervise and maintain ultra-low freezers (typically -80°C) used in laboratory, pharmaceutical, or research environments. Ensure reliable performance, rapid response to alarm events, and alignment to strict temperature control requirements for sensitive material storage. + **Performance Testing & Compliance:** Conduct system performance checks to verify cooling capacity, refrigerant charge levels, and pressure/temperature readings. Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, EPA, and energy regulations, including proper handling and documentation of refrigerants. + **Fixing & Repairs:** Diagnose issues in refrigeration cycles, including electrical faults, compressor failures, or refrigerant leaks. Replace or repair faulty components such as expansion valves, solenoids, evaporator coils, and defrost timers to restore optimal operation. + **Preventive Maintenance:** Perform scheduled maintenance tasks including oil and filter changes, leak detection, defrost cycle verification, compressor checks, and data logging—especially critical for ULT freezer reliability and uptime. + **Teamwork & Communication:** Work closely with facilities, operations, and project teams to ensure refrigeration systems support critical processes. Communicate system status and technical recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical partners. **What You’ll Need:** + High school diploma, GED, or technical/trade school certification. Minimum 4–5 years of experience in refrigeration system maintenance, HVAC-R, or related fields. Universal EPA 608 certification is required. ULT freezer experience strongly preferred. + Ability to work in cold environments, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and lift heavy equipment (50 lbs.+) as part of daily duties. + Proven understanding of refrigeration systems, including ULT freezers, refrigerants, and electrical controls. Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for logging, tracking, and reporting work activities. Experience working with Building Management Systems (BMS) for supervising and controlling HVAC and refrigeration system performance.
