The HVAC Solderer is responsible for cutting, assembling, brazing, and/or soldering copper, brass, stainless steel, carbon steel, and other tubing for HVAC systems. The role involves using flame torches to join refrigeration piping, ensuring leak-free connections while maintaining high-quality standards.
ResponsibilitiesPerform brazing operations for refrigeration systems using appropriate brazing filler materials to join copper to copper, copper to brass, and copper to stainless steel.Utilize oxy-acetylene, oxy-propane, or oxy-natural gas torches during brazing.Apply standard brazing techniques to prevent oxidation, including nitrogen purging while brazing and/or soldering to create strong, clean, and leak-free braze joints.Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to assemble HVAC units.Cut, fit, and join refrigerant lines, condensers, evaporators, and compressors as required.Ensure brazed joints meet company and industry standards such as AHRI, NFPA, CSA, or UL.Conduct visual inspections and pressure tests, like nitrogen leak tests, to verify leak-free joints.Identify and repair defects, leaks, or poor connections before system assembly.Follow all workplace safety procedures, including PPE use, and proper handling of torches, gases, and metals.Adhere to all provincial and industry safety standards for brazing and welding operations.Maintain, clean, and inspect torches, hoses, tanks, and brazing tools on a daily basis.Ensure proper storage and handling of compressed gases and flux materials.Report any equipment malfunctions to supervisors.
Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years' experience in brazing and soldering.Proficiency in oxy-acetylene, oxy-propane, and oxy-natural gas brazing.Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and assembly instructions.Understanding of heat transfer, thermal expansion, and metal joining techniques.
Additional Skills & QualificationsBrazing Certification (TSSA or equivalent).HVAC Certification from a recognized college or technical school.Occupational Health and Safety Training.

Work Environment
This is a full-time position working alongside a team consisting of two welders, two refrigeration specialists, an electrician, and a maintenance worker. For this project, you will be working with over 20 colleagues, including Mechanical and Electrical Assemblers. The workspace is shared with another company, separated by a wall. The work environment encourages collaboration and teamwork.
