Human Reliability & Performance Manager
The Human Reliability & Performance Manager provides strategic leadership for integrating Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles and Human Factors (HF) across the organization. This role ensures that safety management systems, operational risk processes, and cultural initiatives reflect modern safety concepts such as Safety II, Safety Differently, and Learning from Normal Work. The position oversees the HOP Program Lead and associated coaches, drives organization-wide frameworks, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. By embedding HF and HOP into organizational practices, the role strengthens resilience, enhances safety culture, and promotes continuous improvement.RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Define and govern the organization’s Human Reliability & Performance strategy, integrating Human Factors and HOP principles into safety management systems and operational risk processes.Lead organization-wide implementation of Human Factors practices, including Safety Critical Task Analysis (SCTA), human error analysis, and performance influencing factor assessments.Develop standards and frameworks for HF integration, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with industry best practices.Provide strategic oversight for HOP initiatives, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with organizational objectives.Establish performance metrics and reporting mechanisms to monitor HF and HOP effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.Champion cross-functional collaboration with HSE, Operations, Learning & Development, and external stakeholders to embed HF and modern safety concepts into daily operations.Shape organizational learning culture by promoting proactive risk management, resilience engineering, and learning from normal work.Represent the company in regulatory engagements, industry forums, and academic partnerships to influence best practices and maintain leadership in safety innovation.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience

Strong understanding of modern safety concepts and human performance principlesNEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent professional qualification.Proven experience in Human Factors, Human and Organizational Performance (HOP), and safety management within oil & gas or other high-risk industries.Strong understanding of Safety II, Safety Differently, Resilience Engineering, and Learning from Normal Work.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence at all organizational levels.Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to HF and safety performance.

Preferred Experience

Professional certification in HOP or Human Factors disciplines.Advanced Human Factors expertise, including task analysis techniques (e.g., Hierarchical and Cognitive Task Analysis), human error prediction methods, performance influencing factor assessment, and design/evaluation of human-system interfaces for operational environments.Skilled presenter with ability to engage diverse audiences and simplify complex concepts.Knowledge of behavioural safety approaches and organizational ergonomics.

Working Conditions

Primarily office-based in the UK, with regular interaction across organization-wide teams.Requires occasional travel to operational sites, including offshore facilities, and industry events to support implementation and engagement activities.Ability to adapt to varied environments and maintain effective communication with both onshore and offshore personnel.
