Job Title: Human Factors Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a Human Factors Engineering Analyst to join our team in Calgary or Ottawa. Collaborating with Human Factors, User Experience experts, and designers, you will define problem spaces and end user needs, advocating those needs to the engineering and development community. Utilizing Human Factors principles, research, and usability testing, you will ensure military systems provide soldiers with effective tools. The role involves an iterative user-centered design process to create usable interfaces, and effectively communicating these designs through written and verbal presentations to design teams and customers.
Responsibilities
Conduct Human Factors Analysis to identify end user needs, including Task Analysis, Workload, and End User Analysis from concept to implementation.Apply human factors principles and standards such as MIL-STDS and ANSI to design effective and usable user interfaces.Create and support innovative end user interfaces and communicate design rationale effectively.Advocate for end users by communicating user needs and detailed interface designs through HFE documentation and presentations.Review equipment and system specifications for Human Factors Engineering requirements.Collaborate with stakeholders to plan research and uncover new opportunities.Prepare and execute User Analysis and Usability Test events with the end user community, resulting in detailed human factors analysis and recommendations.Deliver presentations to influence and guide stakeholders towards better understanding.Define product requirements and understand user workflows to assist design and product teams in product discovery.Develop or support Human Factors analysis and artefacts, influencing prototype designs across various mediums and fidelity.Moderate workshops, in-person interviews, and remote sessions, facilitating research to lead the team towards better user outcomes.Establish and maintain strong internal and external relationships.Essential Skills
Minimum of 10 years experience working with human factors in design and implementation.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors, Industrial Design, Psychology, Kinesiology, Computer Science, Systems Design, Ergonomics, or related discipline with coursework in human factors engineering/ergonomics/human-computer interaction.Understanding of the benefits of human factors on end users and ability to provide examples demonstrating impacts.Experience with design standards such as MIL-STD 1472, DEF-STAN-0251, DEF-STAN 00-23-09, and ANSI/OSHA standards.Ability to work with clients and possess basic communication skills.Technical writing and analysis skills.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working through the full life cycle and in an agile environment.Experience in analyzing results and creating artefacts illustrating end user needs.Familiarity with Military standards.Development and support of Ergonomic/Human Factors artefacts and design prototypes.Creating and supporting innovative end user interfaces as part of a team.Moderating workshops, in-person interviews, and remote sessions.Facilitating research through collection, analysis, and producing insights.Job Type & Location

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $60.00/hr.
