You will report to the HR Supervisor in the Student Life Human Resources unit. Our unit supports the full employment life cycle for approximately 1500 employees and approximately 3,000 temporary employees across the Division, including both professional and bargained-for staff, and student and non-student temporary employees.
This position is hybrid, allowing for remote work and participation in virtual meetings using video conferencing platforms such as Zoom, as well as mobile devices. You will also commute 2-3 days per week across campus for in-person meetings with different units within the division in the Ann Arbor area.

As an HR Leave and Disability Partner, you will collaborate closely with the Work Connections team, HRBPs, supervisors/managers, employees, and institutional partners to manage all aspects of employee leave and disability cases for the division of Student Life. This includes extended sick leave, work-related injury/illness, FMLA, accommodation requests, seasonal leave, and unpaid leave. The role ensures that disability, leave, and return-to-work processes are handled efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with university policies, federal regulations, and best practices. Main Responsibilities and Expectations:
Manage leave and disability cases end-to-end, including extended sick leave, work-related injuries or illnesses, and workers' compensation. Partner with Work Connections to review, resolve, and close cases, ensuring accurate documentation, compliance with university and federal requirements, and proper recordkeeping.Oversee accommodations and work restrictions in collaboration with ECRT-DEO and HRBPs, ensuring ADA compliance. Advise supervisors and managers on effective return-to-work strategies for employees with restrictions or accommodation needs.Administer FMLA and other statutory leaves, including maternity, parental, adoption, serious health conditions, and qualifying exigencies. Determine eligibility and leave entitlements, provide guidance to employees and managers, ensure compliance, and maintain accurate leave records.Administer seasonal and unpaid leaves following university guidelines and unit practices. Coordinate with HRBPs, supervisors, and payroll to manage approvals, documentation, pay impacts, and HR system updates.Partner with Supervisor, HRBPs, and units to address leave and disability related issues, manage the Student Life HR Leave and Disability inbox, and support HR initiatives by leading process improvements, ensuring compliance, analyzing data, delivering training and communications, and participating in committees, special projects, and other organizational efforts.Required Qualifications*Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience3-5 years of HR professional experience with extensive knowledge in disability management, FMLA, ADA, accommodations, and leave administration, and a good understanding of the federal, state, and local regulations and policies related to the field.Ability to advise and guide managers, supervisors, and employees on complex HR issues.Experience working in complex institutions with interconnected operations, including familiarity with unionized settings, and supporting HR systems, documentation, and reporting.Experience in the use of HR systems, metrics, and reporting tools to support data-driven decision-making.Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.Modes of Work
