The Housekeeper Supervisor serves as a team leader for a crew of custodial/housekeeping staff. This role involves training new employees, issuing daily work assignments, monitoring work in progress, and checking completed work. The supervisor assists staff with problems or unusual situations, handles minor disciplinary actions and other personnel problems, reports significant personnel issues to the supervisor, and reviews timesheets. The position ensures that established standards of quality and quantity are met.
ResponsibilitiesTrain new employees in housekeeping procedures and standards.Issue daily work assignments and oversee their completion.Monitor work in progress and ensure completed tasks meet quality standards.Assist staff with resolving problems or unusual situations.Handle minor disciplinary actions and personnel issues.Report significant personnel problems to the supervisor.Review employee timesheets for accuracy and completeness.Ensure cleanliness of floors by vacuuming, sweeping, dust mopping, washing, stripping, waxing, and buffing.Shampoo carpets and maintain their appearance.Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, and trash cans.Dust furniture, fixtures, and woodwork.Collect and empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings.Clean, sanitize, and stock bathrooms; change and clean shower curtains.Replace light bulbs and move furniture as needed.Perform routine cleaning of electrical, heating, vents, and fixtures.Coordinate and carry out specialized custodial/maintenance functions such as refinishing floors and project cleaning.Assist with snow removal during inclement weather.Communicate and coordinate with personnel from various departments.Commit to fostering a welcoming culture of inclusion and diversity.Perform other related duties as assigned.Essential SkillsGood basic supervisory skills including decision-making, interpersonal adaptability, and time management.Strong written and oral communication skills.Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people in an educational and professional environment.Ability to work cooperatively with employees from other departments and interact courteously with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.Valid driver’s license.Strong computer aptitude, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn operational applications.Physical ability to perform custodial work and operate cleaning equipment.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of troubleshooting vacuums or other housekeeping equipment is a plus.Why Work Here?Enjoy a great benefits package upon permanent employment, including tuition benefits for employees, spouses, and children.
