Job Title: Histology Technician (Night)Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team in a night shift position. This role involves working from Saturday to Thursday, with shifts from 21:00 to 05:30. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a hospital setting, particularly in grossing and other histological procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for first-time travelers with over 10 years of strong experience.

ResponsibilitiesPerform grossing and fixation of tissue samples.Prepare frozen sections and tissues, utilizing additive fixatives and understanding their indications and contra-indications.Handle coagulant and non-coagulant fixatives.Manage core biopsies, curettings, and decalcification processes.Process excision specimens, incisional biopsies, shave biopsies, and other routine hospital anatomical pathology specimens.Conduct immunohistochemistry and various types of staining, including automated IHC and special stains.Prepare thin prep, cell block, and cytospin for cytology specimens, including gyn specimens.Operate automatic tissue processors and handle calcified/decalcified tissue.Perform dehydration and clearing with various agents.Follow GI processing schedule and microwave processing techniques.Embed and perform microtomy on various specimens using both automated and manual microtomes.Cut tissue sections using microtome and cryostat, and manage embedding of different specimen types.Prepare histology cassettes and perform precision microtomy.Remove foreign objects from specimens as allowed by protocol.Stain tissue samples with basic dyes, cytoplasmic stains, nuclear stains, and special stains like PAS.Identify artifacts and prepare slides for staining, including H&E and IHC staining.Prepare and mount frozen sections on glass slides.Essential SkillsMinimum of 2 years of experience in a hospital setting with grossing experience.Proficiency in histology, tissue sampling, lab support, staining, and immunohistochemistry.Experience in accessioning and handling routine hospital anatomical pathology specimens.Additional Skills & QualificationsCalifornia state license preferred.Knowledge of CYTOLOGY skills, including preparing thin prep, cell block, and cytospin.Familiarity with hospital clinical laboratory settings.Ability to wear scrubs or business casual attire.Work Environment

This position is based in an acute care facility's hospital clinical laboratory. The work schedule is from Saturday to Thursday, night shifts from 21:00 to 05:30. The dress code allows for scrubs or business casual attire. The role involves working with automatic tissue processors and various histological equipment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Santa Rosa, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $50.00/hr.
