We are currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Specialist I for our Maintenance Program located in Pinedale, Wyoming. Located along the Continental Divide, Pinedale offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the state. The community is surrounded by the Wind River Range, Gros Ventre Range, and Wyoming Range, and is just minutes from the Bridger Wilderness Area. Pinedale is approximately 78 miles south of Jackson and 90 miles south of Yellowstone National Park, making it an ideal location for those who appreciate Wyoming’s natural beauty. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy year-round access to mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, and other recreational activities. The area is also rich in history, hosting the annual Green River Rendezvous, a reenactment of historic fur trader gatherings held near the nearby town of Daniel. Additionally, Wyoming is one of only seven states with no state income tax, offering added financial benefits. As a Highway Maintenance Specialist, you will play a critical role in maintaining Wyoming’s roadways by leading a team and performing a variety of maintenance tasks. Qualifications PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those applicants with 3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Construction and/or Highway Maintenance). **Agency requires that the incumbent obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 30 days of employment. KNOWLEDGE: + Knowledge of highway maintenance operations + Knowledge of computers, basic office equipment, Gmail, and WYDOT + databases/systems + Knowledge of state highway pavement marking and signing standards + Knowledge of state and federal highway safety standards and traffic control procedures + Knowledge of equipment maintenance, basic mechanical diagnosis, and repair procedures + Knowledge of hazardous materials response procedures + Knowledge of federal and state requirements for proper use of personal protective + equipment + Knowledge of basic equipment operation for single and tandem axle trucks, loaders, and tractors; knowledge of specialized heavy equipment used in maintenance activities + Knowledge of safe work procedures, First Aid and CPR, and OSHA Safety Data Sheets for chemicals used in maintenance activities MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associate's Degree (typically in Engineering) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within (12) months of hire OR Education & Experience Substitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Highway Maintenance/Highway Construction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Highway Maintenance Technician Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License within (12) months of hire Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Frequent use of manual and powered hand tools + Daily use of motor vehicles and heavy equipment + Frequent exposure to hazardous materials + Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independently + Ability to stand/sit and operate equipment for long periods of time + Work in adverse environmental conditions, which may include, but not be limited to, rain, snow, heat, and hail + Ability to walk for long periods on even and uneven ground + Working around high-speed traffic and heavy construction equipment + Individuals in this classification must be available for emergency work calls at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Individuals must report to the Department Shop within 30 minutes of receiving the call.
