This is an excellent opportunity to join Barclays as a High Frequency Unix Systems Administrator within our global SI UNIX team, serving as a key regional escalation point in Tokyo. This role offers strong international exposure, the chance to lead through technical expertise, and a clear pathway for progression into more senior roles. As part of this team, you will support and enhance the low latency Linux platforms used by our trading and execution teams—an environment where performance, stability, and speed truly matter. You’ll work across the full technology stack, including build, configuration, monitoring, incident investigation, and continuous improvement. Rather than performing routine “runbook-only” operations, you will collaborate directly with application teams and infrastructure specialists to design fit for purpose solutions and respond swiftly to evolving business needs. You will play a significant role in driving automation and improving platform resilience through tools such as Chef, Ansible, and scripting. Your work will directly reduce manual effort, strengthen system reliability, and contribute to continuous uplift of the overall environment.

Purpose of the role
To build and maintain infrastructure platforms and products that support applications and data systems, using hardware, software, networks, and cloud computing platforms as required with the aim of ensuring that the infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and secure. Ensure the reliability, availability, and scalability of the systems, platforms, and technology through the application of software engineering techniques, automation, and best practices in incident response.
Accountabilities
Build Engineering: Development, delivery, and maintenance of high-quality infrastructure solutions to fulfil business requirements ensuring measurable reliability, performance, availability, and ease of use. Including the identification of the appropriate technologies and solutions to meet business, optimisation, and resourcing requirements.Incident Management: Monitoring of IT infrastructure and system performance to measure, identify, address, and resolve any potential issues, vulnerabilities, or outages.
