Job Title: Heavy Equipment Operator

Job Description

We are looking for skilled Heavy Equipment Operators to support full site development projects in the areas of Front Royal and Winchester, VA. This role is crucial in safely operating machinery for earthwork, grading, and underground utility installation. The position ensures that the site is prepared according to detailed plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and off-road trucks.Perform tasks including mass excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, and material handling.Support pipe crews by digging trenches, setting grades, and placing bedding/stone.Read and follow site plans, grade stakes, cut sheets, and instructions from supervisors.Conduct daily equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues.Maintain equipment cleanliness, fluid levels, and ensure safe operating conditions.Work safely around utilities, laborers, and other equipment operators.Adhere to all site safety rules, including trench safety, traffic control, and PPE requirements.Assist with general labor tasks when equipment work is slow.Communicate clearly with foremen, pipe layers, and laborers to maintain production flow.

Essential Skills

2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment on site development, excavation, or utility projects.Proficiency in operating multiple types of equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, and skid steers.Experience with trenching, grading, and working around underground utilities.Understanding of cut/fill, slopes, grades, and safe excavation practices.Ability to work on uneven terrain and in active construction zones.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with GPS technology in construction equipment operation.Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members.

Work Environment

This position requires working at active construction sites in the areas of Front Royal and Winchester, VA. Candidates must be comfortable rotating to any location. The work environment involves operating heavy machinery on uneven terrain and within active construction zones.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Purcellville, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
