Heavy Equipment Operator
Job Title: Telecommunications Directional Drill Operator and Locator

Job Description

A Telecommunications Directional Drill Operator and Locator is responsible for using directional drilling and locator equipment to ensure the precise placement of underground infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Adhere to all safety regulations and industry standards at all levels.Perform setup and teardown of equipment and job sites, ensuring all hazards are removed.Develop a plan for the route by conducting daily route surveys and taking measurements for accurate placement of infrastructure.Operate directional drilling equipment safely and efficiently, meeting project specifications.Determine water needs based on ground conditions and complete mud mixing for boring. Fill water tanks as needed.Maintain, calibrate, and participate in emergency repair of machinery, tools, and safety equipment.Provide accurate records of job activities and daily equipment reports, performing quality control and assurance on all equipment and work completed.Collaborate with lead, supervisor, and/or manager.Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment related to directional drilling and other associated machinery.Proficiency in operating underground locating equipment and bore rig.Capability to perform some maintenance of drill equipment and mixing unit.Understanding and following established standards.Ability to work a variable schedule including days, nights, and weekends as needed, and travel where necessary.Strong oral, written, and organizational skills.Self-motivated with the ability to work well unsupervised.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

High school degree or GED is required.A valid Iowa Class A CDL or ability to obtain one (with tanker endorsement) within 60 days of hire.Experience using hand tools and construction equipment is preferred.1+ years of relevant experience is preferred.

Work Environment

The role involves working in Southeast Iowa, in locations such as Ottumwa, Grinnell, Sigourney, New Sharon, and Newton. You will primarily operate equipment throughout the day and work as part of a team of 5-6 people.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Will work Monday through Thursday 6:30am-5:00pm---- FRIDAYS OFF! Not a ton of overtime as they really pride themselves on having a work life balance for their employees. (The project is about a year behind so will work occasional Fridays but pretty rare)

If applicable, mileage (if traveling over 60 miles) and lodging will be reimbursed per our company policy. Wage is competitive, benefits are exceptional, and each team member has the opportunity to receive profit sharing each year.

Pay will be $30-$35 an hour
