Here’s how a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for our Denver District, contributes to our team:
+ Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment and vehicles.
+ Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance to maximize operational efficiency and safety.
+ Disassemble, repair, and reassemble engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and other machinery components.
+ Replace worn or damaged parts using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and precision instruments.
+ Test and adjust equipment settings to ensure proper operation and compliance with specifications.
+ Maintain detailed repair and maintenance records using CMMS or manual logs.
+ Conduct on-site field service repairs as needed at job sites or remote locations.
+ Follow all safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment.
+ Communicate effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, and team members.
+ Stay current on heavy equipment technologies, diagnostic techniques, and tools through ongoing training.
+ Diagnose mechanical defects in diesel and gas-powered equipment (e.g., cranes, compactors, loaders, excavators).
+ Overhaul and repair engines, transmissions, hydraulic and brake systems, steering systems, and electrical components.
+ Inspect used parts for wear and determine repair needs.
+ Perform welding, valve adjustments, hydraulic pump rebuilds, and instrumentation repairs.
+ Adjust and repair grader blades, loader bucket assemblies, and power shovel electronics.
+ Make emergency field repairs.
+ Conduct routine servicing such as oil changes, tire repairs, and fluid checks.
+ Operate and drive a variety of vehicles including trucks, graders, bulldozers, loaders, scrapers, and tractors.
+ Use precision tools and perform tasks requiring dexterity.
+ Follow safety standards to avoid burns, vibration hazards, and other risks.
What you will bring to the role:
+ High school diploma or GED required; vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
+ Proven experience diagnosing and repairing heavy equipment (e.g., forklifts, loaders, excavators, trucks).
+ Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
+ Proficiency with diagnostic tools, software, and repair equipment.
+ Ability to perform manual labor, lift up to 75 pounds, and work in various weather and site conditions.
+ Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
+ Strong communication skills to explain technical information to others.
+ Willingness to work overtime, irregular hours, and respond to emergency repairs.
+ Valid driver's license; CDL may be required.
+ Perform preventative maintenance and simple to advanced repairs.
+ Use hand tools and power tools effectively.
+ Read and interpret technical service manuals.
+ Follow written and oral directions.
+ Keep simple records and work cooperatively with others.
+ Perform physically demanding tasks including lifting, climbing, and carrying equipment.
+ Distinguish sounds, colors, and temperatures necessary for diagnosing equipment issues.
+ Use welding equipment and impact tools.
