Medina Hospital’s Emergency Department serves all patients seeking emergency care — inclusive of all ages from neonate to geriatric, and regardless of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ability to pay. The department is focused on providing treatment tailored to each individual patient’s specific needs, with an emphasis on expediting care and reducing wait times. As a Health Unit Coordinator on our team, your daily responsibilities will include performing various administrative and clerical tasks to support the organization and flow of the department. Here, you will provide exceptional customer service to patients, families and visitors, ensuring everyone has the best experience possible.

A caregiver in this role works a evening/night rotation from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.  

Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.   

Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.  

Assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.  

Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.  

Handle various computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.

Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

High School Diploma or GED  

One year of experience in a customer service-related role  

Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

College degree  

Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.

Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
