Health Information/Billing Office RECEPTIONIST

JOB SUMMARY:

HIM/Billing Receptionist provides courteous and professional assistance to all patients, visitors and staff contacting the HIM and Billing Offices.  Primary job duties include prompt and courteous customer service, receiving and directing incoming calls, taking patient payments, and medical data entry tasks. Will provide excellent customer service to customers and PRHC staff.  Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:

Receives, places, and transfers of calls using telephone etiquette for the switchboard or department phones.  Oversee telephone inquiries and requests from walk-in patients with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for patient information. Assists other departments to locate information.  May assist with coordination of portal assistance. 

Takes patient payments, assists with address updates, final notices, and coordinates patient help when needed either by HIM staff or Business Office staff. 

Scans and/or uploads documents into Meditech.  

Faxes necessary documentation to outside providers.   

Sorts Mail within the department.

Maintains knowledge of HIPAA and Privacy rules when assisting patients. 

Complete any additional tasks as assigned.

 

 

JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:

High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required.

Clerical and customer service experience required.

Must have strong computer skills with keyboarding, data entry, and office machines.

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in English.

Strong written, oral, and positive communication skills.

Ability to understand and carry out detailed directions with independence.

Must demonstrate the critical thinking skills required to complete all aspects of job description.

Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and responsibility.

Must demonstrate ability to multi-task and handle a busy workload.
