This role will report to the Head of Accident and Health (A&H) and is accountable for the profitability, growth, retention, and loss ratio of the A & H portfolio. The role functions as the key contact regarding all underwriting, compliance and portfolio management and will work in a proactive and collaborative manner with multiple stakeholders.
How you will create an impact
Govern the Underwriting Process
+ Develop the underwriting framework, best practices, guidelines and risk appetite
+ Drive consistent and best practices in underwriting, claims and portfolio management
+ Ensure compliance with local regulations and alignment to A&H strategic objectives
+ Underwrite large accounts and complex risks, including referrals
+ Utilization of monitoring standards including audits, quality reviews and peer reviews to assess underwriting results and loss ratios
+ Partners with product and distribution stakeholders on the development and execution of new business and renewal strategies
Manage the Underwriting Team
+ Lead a team of underwriters
+ Provide technical underwriting direction and leadership to the A&H team
+ Strengthen A&H capabilities to lead in target account segments, including multinational
+ Provide ongoing training to improve underwriting skills and develop succession plans
+ Drive continuous improvement of underwriting productivity to optimize efficiency
+ Drive consistency in underwriting, service and market facing activities
+ Manage Authority delegation in country including required Peer Audits
+ Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity and inclusion
Product development
+ Support the development of new products and product enhancements
+ Develop underwriting guidelines for new products
+ Develop pricing and portfolio strategies and rating models
+ Ensure adequate and regular monitoring and analysis of products
+ Conduct user acceptance testing
+ Create, approve, maintain and manage product, benefit, policy wording, endorsement and collateral register, ensuring version control and appropriate signoffs from legal, compliance and other internal parties as required
Operations and Business Processes
+ Update stakeholders on underwriting activities that require support and service
+ Manage the operational execution of the underwriting process, including service levels, error rates, customer satisfaction, underwriting leakage rates, process improvement and workflow between underwriting and key stakeholders
+ Meet agreed Service Level Agreement
Portfolio Management
+ Provide analytical support for tactical and strategic decisions
+ Utilize/Create tools to monitor production, profit and expense
+ Regular monitoring and analysis of product performance
+ Assist in planning, budgeting and forecasting activities
+ Deliver timely and accurate production, Profit & Loss and ad hoc reports
Compliance
+ Complete and manage quarterly self-audit reviews
+ Lead in any audits on underwriting issues
+ Develop and implement action plans based on audit recommendations and findings
+ Adherence to all compliance standards, including implementation of new standards.
What you'll need to succeed
+ Relevant and extensive experience in A&H underwriting with P&L responsibility
+ Strong customer service ethic, with a sound understanding of the business processes
+ Knowledge of market segmentation, portfolio management, acquisition and distribution
+ Ability to drive and execute global strategies and best practices
+ Demonstrates business savvy, analytical and quantitative skills
+ Proven strategic leadership skills in developing vision and purpose and driving for results
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills
+ Team player with influencing skills and proven ability to work across teams and geography
+ Demonstrates capabilities in developing a high-performance organization
+ Proficiency in MS Office
