UCB is seeking to hire an exceptional Head of Rare & Epilepsy for Mexico who will be the cross-functional leader of operations for these two therapeutic areas.  This position will be based out of our Mexico City offices in Polanco.

 

 

Position Description:

 

The Head of Rare & Epilepsy will role-model the Patient Value Strategy (PVS) through inclusive and externally oriented leadership.  This role leads Marketing and Medical Strategy Leads, Ecosystem Leads (ESL), and co-leads other functions (e.g., Hub). They are responsible for developing and executing the Integrated Strategy Plan (ISP), aligning objectives across ecosystems in Mexico. They shape agile, entrepreneurial ways of working focused on external partnerships and resource optimization. They oversee tailored strategies to meet strategic and financial goals, track market dynamics, and ensure effective deployment of resources to maximize patient value. The Head of Rare & Epilepsy ensures ethical, compliant, and high-quality operations aligned with UCB’s code of conduct and industry standards.

 

 

Major Accountabilities:

 

Monitors the design and execution of tailored strategies to achieve strategic and financial goals in collaboration with internal stakeholders across ecosystems.Leads the cross-functional Rare & Epilepsy Leadership Team, including Marketing, Medical Leads, and ESLs.Accountable for delivering financial targets, driving growth and profitability, and overseeing team performance and product P&L.Ensures agile deployment and reallocation of resources based on deep understanding of ecosystem drivers.Aligns local strategy and insights with global and regional priorities to maximize patient value and brand objectives.Demonstrates strategic commitment to pipeline by aligning early with key stakeholders and preparing launch teams.Ensures team capabilities are in place, with appropriate roles, training, and resources adjusted to market needs.Supports strategic discussions and gathers insights from KOLs, payers, patient networks, and other stakeholders.Embeds PVS principles to foster a patient-centric culture and sustainable competitive advantage.Collaborates with local teams to adapt and implement brand strategies to market needs as well as drives innovation through digital tools such as AI and digital assistants.Provides multi-functional leadership across Marketing, Medical Strategy, Access, Policy Shaping and Patient Engagement.Ensures ethical, compliant, and high-quality operations in line with UCB’s code of conduct and industry standards.

 

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

Master's Degree10+ years of experience in healthcare-related roles across sales, marketing, market access, and/or medical.3+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary or matrixed teams (preferred: Business Unit Head or similar).3+ years of experience within the healthcare system.Proven cross-functional leadership in managing and influencing teams across Commercial, Medical, Access, Patient Engagement, Policy Shaping and support functions (e.g., Communications, Quality, Finance, Data Privacy, Drug Safety, Talent).

 

 

Preferred Experience:

 

Preferred: 3+ years of in-depth therapeutic area knowledge.Preferred: 3+ years in general management.Preferred: launch experience in orphan drugs for rare diseases.
