**Your impact at MUFG**
You will be responsible for the overall prevention of money laundering (AML) and terrorist financing (CTF) for the German Branch of MBE in accordance with the German Money-Laundering Act and applicable regulatory requirements and MBE standards.
This role constitutes a key control function within the German Branch and has a direct reporting line to the German Branch Management and functional reporting lines to the MBE Head of Financial Crime Office (FCO)/Group AML function, where applicable, with escalation lines to the MBE Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) and the Chief Risk Officer (CRO, member of the Management Board of MBE).
**The role includes the following responsibilities:**
+ Acting as the appointed Money Laundering Officer pursuant to section 7 of the German Money Laundering act (GwG) for the German branch, with responsibility for ensuring compliance with all applicable German AML/CFT laws, regulations, and supervisory requirements. Acting as the central point of contact for:
+ The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU),
+ BaFin, and
+ Deutsche Bundesbank.
+ Preparing, updating and documenting the MBE Germany-specific risk analysis.
+ Reviewing and assessing suspicious activities and deciding on the submission of suspicious activity reports (SARs).
+ Ensuring the proper documentation of AML-relevant facts and decisions.
+ Advising the German Branch Management on money laundering and terrorist financing risks, and supporting the Head of FCO in the proper establishment and ongoing operation of the MUFG’s Global Financial Crime framework in the German Branch ensuring full compliance with the German legal and regulatory requirements.
+ Ensuring the implementation of internal policies and procedures relating to AML/CTF, incorporating national legal or regulatory requirements in Germany in the MBE Financial Crime policies, standards, procedures and operating manuals.
+ Acting as a liaison and co-operating with local supervisory authorities and external auditors regarding Financial Crime.
+ Supporting and overseeing the timely remediation of internal and external audit findings and regulatory observations.
+ Monitoring compliance with AML requirements within the German Branch.
+ Maintaining, monitoring and overseeing the Financial Crime compliance systems of the German Branch and advising the Branch Management and the Head of FCO on necessary measures to address identified deficiencies.
+ Providing internally Financial Crime compliance materials, reports, statistics and other relevant information to the respective reporting lines and via MBE’s Compliance Committee, Branch Operational Control Committee meetings, or ad-hoc meetings with the Branch Management.
+ Raising AML/CFT compliance awareness through dissemination of materials, information, knowledge and updates, and ensuring adequate Financial Crime Compliance training for employees in Germany is embedded in the MBE Financial Crime Compliance Programme or provided locally.
+ Local responsibility for Financial Crime staff in Germany (professional supervision and coordination).
+ Driving contributions to global, regional, and local financial crime strategic initiatives and key programs.
+ Conducting Financial Crime compliance risks assessment and advising on Financial Crime risks.
**In order to be successful in the role, you will need the following:**
**Education:**
+ Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, legal or a related field is a minimum requirement.
+ Master’s degree in law, social sciences, economics or similar is preferred.
+ Degree/Certification in Compliance/financial crime prevention is a significant advantage
**Skills and experience:**
+ Strong professional experience **(7-10+ years)** in a Financial Crime compliance role (AML/CTF), preferably in financial services, with significant hands-on exposure including relevant experience in interacting with senior stakeholders and regulators (BaFin, FIU).
+ Deep understanding of the German Money Laundering Act (Geldwäschegesetz – GwG) and EU AML rules
+ Familiarity with BaFin supervisory expectations for branches and German law compliant reporting systems
+ Relevant experience with transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems
+ Significant understanding of the financial services market-place, business awareness and sound knowledge of regulatory and statutory requirements, relating to compliance matters
+ Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with both Compliance and Business Management
+ Ability to build professional relationships quickly
+ Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with all levels of management within MUFG as well as with those senior industry and regulator individuals
+ Excellent knowledge of financial and compliance regulations and internal procedures and to introduce/update the processes and procedures relating to the changing regulatory environment to ensure that a fully compliant landscape is maintained
+ Ability to reassess operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operation procedures and practices, management restructuring and the impact of new technology
+ Ability to support decisions with sound reasoning
+ Ability to clearly articulate business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings
+ Understanding of all relevant internal rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the business
+ Excellent analytical skills and judgment in identifying AML/CTF risks
+ Proven ability to work in methodical manner and to oversee assigned AML staff/deputies
+ Robust and timely record keeping, evidencing monitoring activities undertaken and action taken
+ Flexible working style
+ Process driven (however, appropriate risk-based, independent thinking)
+ Excellent **German** and **English** proficiency (C2/native level). Knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.
