Head of Alternative Risk Transfer (ART), EMEA
Alternative risk transfer, parametric solutions and captive reinsurance are central to how we help clients navigate increasingly complex, interconnected and volatile risks that traditional insurance cannot fully tackle.
You will own the development and execution of Aon’s ART agenda across the region with a particular focus on parametric solutions, weather and cat‑related exposures, and captive structures, embedding advanced risk capital solutions into core Commercial Risk programmes and driving measurable revenue growth.
Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Risk, EMEA, this role will act as market‑facing thought leader, solution architect and internal catalyst. The role is built for a leader, someone who can shape strategy, originate and structure sophisticated deals, and elevate capability across the region
Aon is in the business of better decisions
At Aon, we shape decisions for the better to protect and enrich the lives of people around the world.
As an organization, we are united through trust as one inclusive team and we are passionate about helping our colleagues and clients succeed.
What the day will look like
Strategy and Market Leadership
Define and continuously refine Aon’s EMEA ART strategy in line with the global Risk Capital agenda and Commercial Risk priorities, with clear focus on where ART, parametrics and captives create the most value for clients.
Position Aon as a market‑leading ART provider using deep knowledge of client, carrier and broker dynamics and competitive offerings in ART and parametric solutions.
Identify and prioritise under‑served geographies and client segments and define a clear plan to scale ART presence and revenues in those areas with a particular focus on Enterprise Client Group.
Act as a visible spokesperson and advocate for ART and risk capital, representing Aon in client forums, at industry events and with key markets.
Client and Deal Leadership
Lead or support strategic, complex ART engagements for priority clients – particularly around:
+ Parametric and weather‑related solutions for cat exposures
+ Captive and “virtual captive” structures
+ Multi‑line / multi‑year ART programmes and structured risk financing
Bring a deal‑maker mentality, ensuring solutions are economically robust and balanced for both clients and carriers, drawing on extensive underwriting and structuring experience.
Partner with country leaders, industry segments and client directors to embed ART as a natural part of every major programme design and RFP, improving win rates, fees and client retention.
Support C‑suite and Group‑level conversations on risk financing strategy and capital optimisation, translating complex concepts into clear, actionable recommendations.
Integration with Commercial Risk and Analytics
Work closely with Risk Capital, Analytics, and Broking to ensure ART is integrated into:
+ Aon’s analytics platforms and diagnostics (e.g. Analyzer, capital models)
+ The broker toolkit and proposal narrative (“one Aon” approach)
+ Industry‑specific value propositions.
Help move EMEA from reactive responses to systematic targeting of ART opportunities, e.g. by shaping pipeline review routines, RFP triage and pursuit strategies.
Collaborate with Aon’s Global Captive and Insurance Management and Reinsurance teams to align on captive, reinsurance and capital solutions for shared clients.
Capability Building and Network Leadership
Act as coach, mentor and educator across the EMEA network to raise ART fluency in local offices, from sophisticated buyers and senior brokers to junior colleagues and new joiners.
Develop and deliver practical training and playbooks on ART and parametric concepts, structuring approaches and case studies, ensuring content is accessible and grounded in client outcomes
Support the targeted build‑out of ART talent
Performance and Governance
Work with Commercial Risk leadership to define clear, outcome‑focused objectives for ART
Supervise and report pipeline, conversion and financial performance of ART deals; provide transparency on return on investment for specialist capacity.
Ensure appropriate governance and risk management for ART structures, drawing on deep underwriting and regulatory experience across multiple jurisdictions.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
Experience in Alternative Risk Transfer, parametrics, and/or complex risk financing, gained within leading insurers, brokers or capital markets participants.
Consistent track record of:
Originating, structuring and underwriting complex ART and parametric deals (especially in weather and cat‑related exposures).
Leading or significantly contributing to an ART line of business across multiple regions, consistently delivering revenue and profit growth.
Building strong relationships with major corporate clients, carriers and brokers, and navigating their different perspectives.
Exposure to captive and “virtual captive” solutions, and familiarity with EMEA captive / ART regulatory environments.
Experience working in or with a matrixed, multi‑country organisation, ideally with a mix of underwriting and broking/market‑facing responsibilities.
Skills and Competencies
Deep technical expertise in ART, parametrics, and risk financing, with the ability to convert complex risk exposures into commercially viable insurance/financing structures.
Commercial acumen and negotiation skills; comfortable leading C‑suite conversations and balancing client value with carrier economics.
Proven ability to simplify complex ideas into clear, outcome‑focused narratives
Collaboration and stakeholder management skills, operating effectively across functions, geographies and business lines.
