Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Sr Principal Hardware Engineer – Site Engineer (26-015) to join our talented and diverse team. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations, monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations globally and regionally to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

This position serves as a deputy or administrator within the C2BMC Site Engineering Team, requiring expertise in hardware and system design and the ability to prepare technical drawings. The role also includes supporting the team lead with administrative duties, overseeing multiple projects, and performing miscellaneous tasks as needed.

Essential Functions:

Assessing hardware features and evaluating them against design specifications

Developing plans for rack integration and designing

Preparing, drafting, and reviewing technical drawings and plans for rack-level and site-wide projects

Assessing the content and specifics of technical products

Completing the necessary documentation and drawings following the guidance of the Systems and/or Hardware Engineer

Acting as a technical interface to the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) National Team (NT) working-level counterparts and the MDA customer

Facilitating or assisting with technical-level meetings

Documenting, managing, and tracking assigned scope with Agile methodologies

Assisting in the creation of Basis of Estimates (BOE) and Engineering Estimates (EE) by examining scope and requirements, and offering labor and material estimates with supporting justification

The successful Site Engineering deputy will be part of a dedicated team, collaborating with peer team members, the Deployment Team leadership, and MDNT management to ensure the delivery of high-quality products on schedule and within resource constraints

Candidates must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to convey technical methods and results clearly

Must possess strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, including skills in root cause analysis and identifying systemic issues

Must be able to execute engineering plans within a project, with knowledge of systems and hardware engineering concepts, principles, and techniques. Additionally, familiarity with drafting practices and DoW (formerly DoD) drawing standards is required

Experienced in handling standard rack-mounted devices such as servers and workstations, as well as networking equipment and cable types like fiber and CAT-6, to ensure proper connection and power supply for computing systems

Self-starter with the demonstrated ability to resolve tasks with limited guidance and to manage tasks in a dynamic environment

This role demands the capacity to work remotely and on-site in Colorado Springs while collaborating with a team

Some travel might be necessary to assist with site surveys and installations as needed

Basic Qualifications:

 

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

 

A Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM Mechanical Engineering (preferred), Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 8 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a STEM-related field with 6 years of relevant work experience; or 12 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree

Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

Must be willing and able to travel to CONUS and OCONUS sites

Position requires a blend of systems engineering, hardware design and engineering, drafting, and technical site support skills

Must be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously within a team setting, with minimal supervision

Proficiency in Microsoft Visio (or other equivalent professional drawing programs) for rack layout and technical diagram creation

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools

Understanding engineering concepts, principles, and techniques

Experience with part listings and reference codes

Strong understanding of Department of War (DoW) drafting and hardware engineering standards

Experience in hardware engineering and requirements analysis, such as heat, weight, and power considerations, along with familiarity with rack-mounted computing devices like servers and workstations, as well as networking equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VLANs

Ability to design, prepare/draft, and review rack-level and site drawings/plans, technical manuals, and other engineering products

Preferred Qualifications:

Development of the Bill of Materials

Drafting and design engineering

Configuration control, management of technical drawings

Conducting in-person site surveys to prepare for hardware installations

Proficiency in systems engineering concepts, including requirements analysis, architecture, and integration

C2BMC experience and prior experience in Systems Engineering/Hardware Engineering are highly desired

Knowledge and experience with Jira and Agile methodologies are highly desired

Experience with Windchill or SAP PLM for product lifecycle management is a plus

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Primary Level Salary Range: $117,500.00 - $176,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
