Job Description:
Role Overview

The Hadoop Production Support Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, supporting, and maintaining Hadoop ecosystem components in a production environment. The role involves incident management, job monitoring, health checks, and coordination with L2/L3 teams to ensure platform stability and SLA compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor Hadoop ecosystem components including HDFS, Hive, Spark, Oozie, HBase, Kafka, YARN, and MapReduce using enterprise monitoring tools.

Perform regular health checks for Hadoop clusters, nodes, and jobs to ensure high availability and stability.

Respond to alerts, incidents, and service requests, ensuring timely resolution or escalation as per defined runbooks.

Support ETL batch processing and resolve basic job failures in production.

Monitor and support job scheduling tools such as Control-M, CA7, Oozie, and Airflow.

Execute predefined scripts, SQL queries, and standard operational procedures for routine support activities.

Maintain and update incident records, root cause analysis, and resolutions in the knowledge base.

Ensure SLA adherence for P1–P4 incidents with proactive follow-ups and stakeholder communication.

Collaborate with L2/L3 engineers, developers, DBAs, and infrastructure teams to maintain production stability.

Prepare and share daily/weekly reports on incident trends, recurring issues, and cluster performance.
Required Skills & Experience

Hands-on experience supporting Hadoop ecosystem components (HDFS, Hive, Spark, Oozie, HBase, Kafka, YARN).

Experience with enterprise monitoring tools such as Nagios, Grafana, Cloudera Manager, or Ambari.

Strong understanding of Hadoop cluster operations and production support processes.

Experience in incident and service request management.

Knowledge of ETL batch processing and job scheduling tools (Control-M, CA7, Oozie, Airflow).

Ability to execute operational scripts and queries as part of support activities.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.

Experience working in 24/7 production support environments.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

Preferred Qualifications

ITIL certification.

Basic scripting knowledge (Shell/Python).

Experience with cloud-based Hadoop platforms.

Exposure to ServiceNow or similar ITSM tools.
