About the RoleWe’re seeking a detail‑oriented Grossing Technician to support anatomic pathology services in a fast‑paced laboratory environment. Working under the supervision of a board‑certified Pathologist, this role plays a critical part in the diagnostic process by performing gross examination and preparation of surgical pathology specimens.
As a Grossing Technician, you’ll serve as an essential extension of the pathologist—often being the first individual to evaluate specimens—helping ensure accuracy, efficiency, and quality throughout the laboratory workflow.
What You’ll DoPerform gross examination, description, dictation, and dissection of human tissue specimensGross gastrointestinal biopsies, small biopsies (including core specimens), prostate cores, and other small tissues that do not require dissectionSelect representative tissue sections for embedding, staining, and microscopic evaluationEnsure accurate specimen accessioning and proper documentationPhotograph significant gross specimens as neededRetrieve and review relevant patient information for discussion with the attending pathologistCollaborate directly with pathologists to identify special techniques or handling requirementsMaintain cleanliness and organization of grossing stations and equipmentMonitor supplies and assist with inventory managementDispose of biological and administrative waste in accordance with lab protocolsIdentify and resolve discrepancies or workflow issues as they ariseWhat We’re Looking ForAssociate of Science degree in Biological Sciences or a related fieldBasic knowledge of human anatomy, gross surgical techniques, and laboratory proceduresExperience preparing tissue for evaluation and supporting pathologists in a timely, accurate mannerStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervisionComfortable using laboratory information systems, voice recognition software, and standard computer applications (Excel, Word, internet‑based systems)Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to work effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environmentFamiliarity with HIPAA and confidentiality requirementsWhy This RoleHands‑on involvement in meaningful diagnostic and disease‑focused pathology workEvening schedule offering consistent weekday hoursCollaborative environment with direct interaction with pathologistsOpportunity to build advanced grossing and anatomic pathology experienceJob Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Modesto, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $43.00/hr.
