Job Description
The Graduate Admissions Coordinator, under general supervision, reviews and evaluates applications for master’s degree studies and professional certification studies using test scores, transcripts, and specific criteria as guidelines to ensure that qualified students are permitted admission into the Graduate Colleges.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Graduate Programs, the Graduate Admissions Coordinator provides information and advises both prospective and enrolled students regarding academic programs within the College of Business. The Graduate Admissions Coordinator performs the following tasks: degree audits for graduating students at the final semester of the degree program; meets regularly with department administrators regarding advising updates, initiatives, and progress; assists the administration, faculty, and staff of the college in activities related to recruiting, advising, and registration of students through graduation, and others as needed. The advisor works with personnel from other colleges and departments when courses are part of their degree programs, and compiles reports that may be required by university administration or external agencies.
The Graduate Admissions Coordinator audits incoming admission applications and processes these for completeness; works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to meet the advising needs of the college. Maintains complete student files for the assigned program in the college. Schedules vary by department/college needs, including work outside normal office hours, evenings, weekends, and peak times. Some travel may be required.
Salary Range: $18.43 - $24.52
Responsibilities:
(Admissions/Academic 65%; Recruiting 35%):
+ Process applications for graduate degrees.
+ Provides academic advice and guidance consisting of multiple programs to graduate students individually and/or with groups regarding degree programs, certification programs, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, major options, and career and educational goals.
+ Advise students with academic and probationary concerns, monitor and review degree plans with students.
+ Initiates add/drop, Q drops, and withdrawals as appropriate, as well as transfer, substitution, and special problems documentation.
+ May assist in procuring and processing internships.
+ Maintain accurate records of student advising contacts and respond to inquiries from students and parents.
+ Meets with new students during new student orientation conferences and assists in the registration process.
+ Refer prospective and enrolled graduate and undergraduate students to areas concerning college admission, re-admission, professional concerns, student financial aid, and student services.
+ Performs degree audits for graduating students in the final semester of the degree program.
+ This process includes checking courses taken against requirements stated in the degree plan and ensuring that the GPA requirements have been met for the major, TAMU-SA courses, and all university-level coursework, and checking requirements for certification. Participates in the recruitment of students, involving activities within various venues both on and off campus.
+ Assists in the development of materials, forms, and functions, including presentations regarding admissions, registration, and advising processes.
+ Requires regular and ongoing professional development.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree or higher in related field.
+ Two (2) years of related experience.
Preferred Education & Experience :
+ Master's degree in a business-related field.
+ Five (5) years of related experience in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Meet the needs of multiple graduate programs within the College of Business, each with specific requirements.
+ Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
+ Knowledge of Blackboard and Banner systems.
+ Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
