Government Relations Specialist
Position Purpose:
The Specialist will facilitate operations of The Home Depot's Washington DC office, which entails providing primary support to assigned VP and working collaboratively with the Government Relations and External Communications teams to support various projects. The role will handle building management and event logistics, oversee external partnerships and internship programs, political compliance, executive visits, presentation support and other duties as needed. Ideal candidates have a strong customer service and teamwork mindset, creative problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask.
Key Responsibilities:
35% Administrative:
Identifies needs and initiates projects independentlySets priorities and procedures for accomplishing work, delegating responsibility as neededActs as gatekeeper for VP with regard to scheduling, visitors, and correspondence; maintains confidentialityMay supervise a single or group of non-exempt support secretary staff interns, including hiring, training, and performance appraisalReviews and questions where necessary expense reports of VP's direct reportsMakes complex domestic or international travel arrangementsOperates a variety of office equipmentProgressively uses the features of one or more standard business software packagesAssists VP with special projects as neededCompile/edit department submission for the Weekly Report of the General CounselDraft fundraising invites/thank you letters from ELTCollaborate on social media campaignsCreate/compile/edit presentationsPlan/track budget spendingMaintain department finance records (e.g. contacts, invoices, receipts, etc.)Submit budget items for payment25% Policy and Research:
Conduct research on issues relevant to the company's businessWork with team to establish policy positionsWrite/maintain one-pagers and white papersAttend coalition meetingsFollow Congressional hearings/track legislationAssess company ROI on GR-driven policy initiatives20% Events Planning and External Relation:
