Boeing is looking for a Deputy Head of Government Affairs, Defence to be based in Westminster, London.
Boeing’s UK & Ireland Government Affairs team’s function is to understand and shape public policy and the political landscape in UK and Ireland. Working closely with colleagues in the EU and internationally, the team covers a very large portfolio of policy issues of significant importance to Boeing, across Boeing’s business divisions (including commercial, defence and services) including but not limited to:
Defence, Security and Space.
Aviation and Aerospace industry.
Environment and sustainability.
Trade.
Party Politics.
While the applicant will be expected to support and be familiar with all the issues in the UK & Ireland Government Affairs portfolio, this role will naturally align with Boeing’s defence businesses, including Defence UK (BDUK) – our UK P&L defence entity – including working closely with BDUK’s Leadership Team.
PLEASE NOTE: This role will be for a fixed term contract (around 18 months)
Position Responsibilities:
Advocacy within UK Parliament, including with MPs and Lords, with a focus on Defence issues.
Shape UK defence procurement policy, including defence industrial policy.
Shape UK defence policy, including specific issues pertaining to the UK MOD and UK Armed Forces.
Coordinate UK Defence stakeholder management.
Support defence business development in the UK.
The role will require frequent evening working during the week (e.g. representing Boeing at networking events) and the occasional weekend (e.g. at airshows). The applicant must be prepared to frequently travel in-country, as well as occasional international travel, including to the U.S. (Seattle and Washington DC) and Brussels for up to two weeks at a time.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Experience of working with and/or within UK government Fluent in both verbal and written EnglishPreferred Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
An astute national and international political antenna, with a deep understanding of international defence and security strategic context. Experience of developing and working with complex policy. A deep understanding of how government and parliament work, specifically with respect to defence issues. Recent experience of working with and/or within UK national security departments and entities (e.g. No10, Cabinet Office, His Majesty’s Treasury, Ministry of Defence, Home Office, OGDs, Royal Air Force, Army, and Royal Navy) would be beneficial.The Boeing benefits package goes above and beyond, focusing on your physical, emotional, financial and social well-being.
