As a Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) Forester, you will balance technical project planning with active fieldwork, executing critical management projects aligned with National Forest Plans. In this role, you serve as the critical bridge between State and Federal land management. You will have the autonomy to execute field work and manage projects that directly align with National Forest Plans. Whether you are conducting timber assessments deep in the woods, collaborating with federal partners, or presenting forestry plans to the public, no two days are alike. Explore our Total Compensation Calculator: compensationcalculator.wyo.gov Human Resource Contact: Ryan Scheer,ryan.scheer2@wyo.gov, 307-777-8570 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. + Plans forest product sales based on factors such as harvestable timber, operability, access, and other natural resource concerns. + Prepares and writes detailed project plans. + Assists Federal personnel in identifying priority treatment areas to conduct environmental analysis and provide written recommendations. + Provides assistance in establishing long-term forest management goals and objectives related to forest management activities. + Prepares forest product sales, stewardship projects, and fuels reduction projects, including property boundary determination, harvest unit layout, road design and layout, marking, cruising, volume determination, appraisal, and advertising. + Prepares forest product sales, fuels reduction projects, and timber stand improvement projects; contracts and maps. + Ensures agency policies and procedures are followed throughout the pre-sale process. + Implements forest management projects from project planning through preparation and contract administration. + Prepares silvicultural prescriptions and NEPA-related forestry/timber specialist reports + Administers forest product sales, fuels reduction, and stewardship contracts to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and project goals. + Monitors the progression of harvesting operations and ensures best management practices are being followed. + Maintains the record of volume removed, payments, and account status. + Conducts all updates and record-keeping that is required by the federal entity and the state of Wyoming + Makes recommendations regarding contract modification or extensions for harvesting operations. + Provides closeout documentation and completes crosswalks with Federal partners at the closeout of each project + Works closely with supervisor and Forestry Partnership Coordinator to develop relationships with USFS Districts and BLM Field Offices. + Coordinates with local, state, and federal partners in advancing forest management in the District. + Represent the State of Wyoming at coordinating, IDT, NEPA, and project planning meetings with federal partners + Keep vehicles, trailers, and ATVs/UTVs clean and maintained. + Restock needed office supplies and equipment via proper ordering/procurement procedures. + Maintain needed forestry equipment to ensure functionality for field use. + Stock needed field supplies for project development/layout. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE: + Proficiency in computers and software commonly used in land management, including Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and GPS tools for spatial data management. + Strong communication skills, tailoring messages to different audiences and organizing information effectively for clarity and impact. + Customer service mindset, with the ability to assess needs, improve service delivery, and handle challenging interactions. + Analytical skills to evaluate complex information, recognize patterns and make sound, well-reasoned decisions. + Strategic thinking to anticipate challenges, plan resources effectively, and transition from analysis to action. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree (typically in Forestry or a closely related field in natural resource management) Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Forestry) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Forestry) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: + Ability to perform strenuous work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions, year-round. + This position may require periodic travel.
