About the department
Medical Affairs-Operations is part of the Operations-GBS unit based in Bangalore, India. This unit includes cross-functional departments that support medical affairs, marketing, analytics, communications, and supply chain functions across Novo Nordisk's international operations, regions and affiliates. The Medical Affairs-Operations team consists of dedicated medical and scientific advisors, project managers, graphic designers, medical writers, and publication managers. This multidisciplinary group works with IO-SO (International Operations – Strategic Operations), regions and affiliates, and collaborates closely with the Global Medical Affairs department in Søborg, Denmark. Our core competencies include effective communication of scientific and medical knowledge regarding our products and therapeutic areas, both within the organization and to the external medical and scientific community.
The position
As a Global Medical Advisor, you will act as a subject matter expert for assigned product(s) and strategic projects, shaping medical strategy, scientific communication, and stakeholder engagement across regions and affiliates to advance Novo Nordisk’s global medical affairs objectives.
This role requires extensive proactive scientific communication with internal and external stakeholders, independent ownership, strategic foresight, high-impact decision making, and the ability to translate complex science into actionable, commercially aligned medical plans.
Key responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of medical affairs strategy in alignment with organizational priorities. Generate, interpret, and communicate scientific data to ensure appropriate positioning, lifecycle planning and value proposition of Novo Nordisk products. Deliver timely, accurate, and credible medical education and guidance to internal and external stakeholders to support affiliates and cross-functional business needs. Build strategic relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), professional societies and academic partners; represent Novo Nordisk in scientific forums and symposia. Translate insights from KOL interactions, external evidence and market intelligence into actionable medical strategy. Lead publication planning and be accountable for the content of assigned posters, abstracts and manuscripts. Provide medical/scientific support to marketing, legal and regulatory as required. Coach and support junior colleagues and contribute to cross-functional initiatives and high-impact projects. Internal stakeholders: Medical Affairs in International Operations, Regions & Affiliates, GMA HQ, Field Medical Force, Marketing Research and Development, Public Affairs, Regulatory and Quality, Global Safety. External stakeholders: KOLs, Research institutions, HCPs, Investigators, health authorities, relevant professional associations and patients’ bodies, external research agencies and vendors. QualificationsMD, PhD, or equivalent in healthcare with a strong clinical or research background.
Minimum 5–8 years of clinical/medical pharmaceutical industry experience (prior senior-level medical affairs experience preferred). Strong clinical and/or research background in area of diabetes mellitus, with interest in scientific analysis and communication, and experience in drug development. Understanding of pharmaceutical drug development and healthcare infrastructure. Demonstrated strategic thinking, independent decision-making and project leadership skills, with experience leading complex cross-functional initiatives. Excellent and proactive communication skills and strong presentation skills. Ability to leverage technology such as AI tools and adopt a data-driven approach. Experience working in matrixed global organizations
This role is based in Bangalore with global responsibilities across regions and affiliates. Expect approximately 5% international travel for congresses and internal meetings.
