Global Energy & Sustainability Director - Toronto Office Job ID 238179 Posted 12-Sep-2025 Service line GWS Segment Role type Full-time Areas of Interest Environmental Consultancy, Project Management Location(s) Toronto - Ontario - Canada Job Purpose: The Global Energy & Sustainability Director will serve as the strategic lead for energy and sustainability initiatives across a global banking client’s property portfolio. This role is accountable for driving the implementation of innovative, data-driven strategies that reduce operational costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and elevate sustainability performance across a large and varied multi-national property portfolio. As the primary point of contact for the client, this leader will ensure alignment between client goals and CBRE’s platform capabilities, delivering measurable impact and long-term value. Key Tasks: Strategic Leadership & Client Partnership •Develop and execute a comprehensive global Energy & Sustainability (E&S) Strategy in collaboration with the client. •Act as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders, aligning sustainability initiatives with corporate E&S goals. •Lead cross-functional integration of E&S strategy with FM, Engineering, Project Management, Energy Procurement, and other service lines within the Master Service Agreement, working closely with the Alliance Director and other on-account and Platform teams. •Be accountable for the delivery of all E&S services by the on-account E&S team, across the whole portfolio. Operational Excellence •Oversee the delivery of E&S services across diverse geographies and asset types, ensuring consistency, compliance, and innovation. •Manage, mentor and develop the on-account E&S team, ensuring high performance and on time and on budget delivery. •Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and client-specific sustainability requirements. •Liaise with third parties as required to ensure their compliance with the E&S strategy Innovation & Continuous Improvement •Stay ahead of emerging trends in energy and sustainability, leveraging CBRE’s platform to introduce new services and technologies in support of the client’s E&S ambitions. •Lead Identification and implementation of opportunities for energy savings, emissions reduction, and operational efficiency. •Drive continuous improvement through process optimization, benchmarking, and best practice sharing across accounts. Reporting & Governance •Lead the preparation and presentation of performance reports, dashboards, and visualizations for internal CBRE and client stakeholders. •Manage escalations related to KPIs, financial variances, program delays, and data quality. •Support internal and external audits, ensuring full traceability and documentation. Capability Building •Develop and implement training programs for both on-account teams and client leadership to embed sustainability into operations. •Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence within the E&S team. Other duties may be assigned. Essential Education •Master’s degree in Energy, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field. •Professional membership (e.g., ECO Canada or equivalent) preferred. Skills •Fluent in English; French proficiency desirable. •Proven strategic client management and stakeholder engagement skills. •Strong leadership and team development capabilities. •High analytical and quantitative proficiency. •Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills. •Proficient in MS Office. •Proficient in property, utilities and sustainability platforms (Envizi, Concentrix, Capturis, Portfolio Manager). •Proficient in financial terms and principles. Experience •10+ years in energy and sustainability leadership roles, preferably within global, multi-site portfolios. •5+ years managing high-performing teams. •Experience in financial services or similarly regulated industries is a plus. •Familiarity with GHG reporting frameworks (IFRS, CDP, GRI) and sustainability compliance.
