Description
We are looking for an experienced GL Accounting Manager to lead and oversee the general ledger functions within our organization in Norfolk, Virginia. This role requires someone with strong attention to detail who can ensure the accuracy of financial records, maintain compliance with reporting standards, and drive efficiency in accounting processes. The ideal candidate will play a key role in managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversee inputs from shared service centers to ensure compliance with accounting and reporting standards.
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to optimize accounting operations and drive process improvements.
• Coordinate and deliver required documentation for internal and external audits, tax reviews, and internal control assessments.
• Prepare and review general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement analyses.
• Analyze and review balance sheet and profit & loss statement variations to identify discrepancies or trends.
• Perform and oversee bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and proper reporting.
• Conduct monthly reviews and analyses to support financial decision-making and reporting.
• Supervise and mentor the general ledger team, fostering growth and collaboration.
Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a corporate or public accounting environment; industry-specific experience is a plus.
• Proven ability to make informed decisions, drive change, and recommend innovative approaches to enhance business operations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, including managing and developing staff.
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, ensuring high productivity and quality standards.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with accounting systems.
• Experience working on complex issues requiring detailed analysis and in-depth knowledge of organizational processes.
