Job Description:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in GIS/Geography, Business, or relevant field of study required

Work Experiences:

3+ years’ experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping software, preferably within retail

Skills:

Strong understanding of Census geography, able to store and interpret demographic data in a relational databaseAbility to evaluate and recommend, and ultimately procure, optimal GIS and/or mapping software and corresponding data to support our Real Estate growth programAbility to manage our GIS and/or mapping programs, including the development of data layers within our mapping softwareAbility to analyze large volumes spatial data and identify trends/patternsStrong data presentation skillsAbility to use GIS data and mapping to effectively communicate insightsStrong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills to interface effectively with individuals at various levelsAbility to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlinesAbility to work well independently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environmentAnalytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skillsAbility to work well under pressure while consistently meeting time sensitive deadlines

Responsibilities:

Planning Responsible for all mapping associated with market strategies (existing/new stores), Real EstateCommittee (REC), and Site ToursMarket strategy maps, including new strategic targetsCompetition mapsThematic maps (e.g., store sales, income, age, potential sales)State mapsTrade area mapsMobile data mapsAd hoc REC and Site Tour mapsManage our relationship with existing mapping and data vendorsRecommend optimal new software and data vendors to ensure appropriate support of our robust growth programManage existing mapping software and datasetsEnsure accurate existing store databaseUpdate (annually) existing store trade areas based on customer dataManage new “target”/proposed store layerManage competitor location database, ensuring removal of closed stores and addition of new locations as well as competitor name or ownership changesResponsible for gathering, compiling, tracking, and reporting on competitor activitiesMaintain tracking list of rumored/confirmed competitive openings and closures and distribute to Operations, Real Estate, Finance, and other teams as requestedComplete all ad hoc mapping requests from cross-functional partnersMerchandising, Finance, and Operations requests (e.g., district maps)Real Estate territory maps for leadership and cross-functional teamsResponsible for continuous improvement of mapping and data maintenance capabilitiesProcure, as needed, new or updated dataResponsible for compiling data and reporting on retail/market trendsDevelop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures, and safety rulesRequired to learn company policies, procedures, and safety rulesDuties may change and associates may be required to perform other duties as assignedUp to 5% travel, as needed
