Major Responsibilities:
Performs and/or assists in surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including epidural steroid injections, neuro stimulator electrode implants, trigger point injections, lumbar sympathetic blocks, regional IV administrations, epidural catheter insertions, radio frequency ablations (RFA's), nerve injections with neurolysis, discographies, vertebralplasties and kyphoplasties.Performs point of care testing and records results. Monitors patient's vital signs before, during, and after procedures.Organizes and prepares procedure room ensuring proper sterilization of instruments and equipment.Provides basic instructions and answers patient's questions prior to procedures. Refers complex questions to RN's or physicians.Maintains working knowledge of all procedural equipment in the department and conducts routine maintenance suggested by the manufacturer and outlined in department policies and procedures.Processes patient prescription requests communicating patient needs to the physician.Prepares equipment for sterile processing by cleaning and wrapping instruments.Orders, receives and stocks pain management department supplies and maintains adequate inventory.Assists clerical staff with office procedures including scheduling of appointments, greeting of patients, entry of patient charges and calling to remind patients of appointments.Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper techniques.Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.Assists with patient care activities and related services under the supervision/delegation of the registered nurse and/or physician including but not limited to intraprocedural support. Assists physicians with accurate retrieval of specimens, specimen preservation, labeling and transportation of specimens to lab.Assists in initiating and/or collaborating with the team for all safety initiatives such as timeout process, traceability of equipment used, and reporting of safety events. Organizes and prepares procedure rooms and equipment according to each physician's specification, checking and assembling proper instruments and equipment needed.Performs high level disinfection and reprocessing of equipment/scopes in a safe and effective manner based on established standards.Cleans, calibrates, operates and performs preventative maintenance on equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations and infection control policies and guidelines. Reports and documents equipment repairs.Documents procedures, images, videos and patient charges utilizing the endoscope and ultrasound information systems.Assists in maintaining inventory for unit by informing unit when supplies are needed, stocking supplies, and receiving ordered supplies. Performs various clerical duties which includes answering of phones, filing, data entry, scheduling and compilation of patient records.Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper techniques.Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
GI Technical Specialist (GTS) certification issued by SGNA by completing the SGNA Associates Program needs to be obtained within 6 months.Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.Must be able to:-Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.-Lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.-Carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.Must be able to:-Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.-Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.Exposed to normal office/clinic environment.Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.Must be able to:Must wear lead aprons with the weight resting on shoulders.Must have speech, hearing, & sight for communication during procedures in which incumbents are working side-by-side and must have touch and fine motor skill coordination.Must be able to function in a very limited space as procedure rooms are small and work will be in close proximity to the other health care members and physician they are assisting.May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids; therefore, protective clothing including gloves, gown, and masks with eye shields, laser glasses, foot, and hair covers just be worn as necessary.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
