Genetic Counselor - Cardiovascular Genetic Counseling - Day
**Schedule** Full Time, Day Shift (80 hours biweekly) Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm **General Summary** Provides genetic counseling to high risk patients and their families. **Essential Functions:** + Provides pre- and post-lab testing genetic counseling primarily for cardiology indications. + Elicits and obtains family history and medical information. + Assists in providing professional psychosocial genetic counseling to individuals regarding genetic conditions existing in or posing potential risks to their first-degree relatives. + Offers appropriate medical or genetic testing to individuals/families at risk for genetic diseases or birth defects. + Educates and explains technical and medical aspects of diagnostic and screening methods and reproductive options, including associated risks, benefits and limitations. + Works in close collaboration with our cardiologists and a team of APPs. + Assists in coordinating communication between patient, referring provider, genetic testing labs and other medical professionals in the diagnosis and evaluation of conditions such as sudden cardiac death, channelopathies, dyslipidemia, aortopathies, and cardiomyopathies, including persons with heart failure. + Supports Inherited Cardiovascular Disease services in satellite clinics via telemedicine/video visits/onsite systemwide visits. There will be travel to Chambersburg and Ephrata on a semi-regular basis. + Assists in charting, reporting and coordinating clinical testing and test results. Helps others interpret results and determines clinical relevance. + Re-evaluates genetic test results in view of new evidence which may result in reclassification on the assertion of a genetic variant. + Coordinates postmortem genetic testing via collaboration with local coroners offices. + Actively participates in education of medical students, residents and attendings of other primary and specialties. + Provides input and participation in research including patient selection, consenting, IRB proposal and grant writing for genomic/precision medicine studies towards translational outcomes. + Supports system-wide Precision Medicine service. Participates regularly in steering committee and multi-disciplinary genetic counselor meetings. **Common Expectations:** + Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department. + Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required. + Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. + Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation. + Schedules and monitors appointments. **Qualifications** **Minimum Education:** + Masters Degree From an accredited genetic counseling training program. Required **Work Experience:** + 1 year Genetic counseling. Required and + New graduates will be considered.
