Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hours may vary based on operational needs. The position is based at our Primary Children’s Eccles Outpatient Services building in Salt Lake City located at 81 Mario Capecchi Dr., with regular travel to our Lehi location located at 2250 North Miller Campus Drive.
Opportunities for a hybrid telework schedule may be considered after the initial training period, provided the arrangement is supported by operational needs and individual performance. Telework arrangements are not guaranteed and may be modified or discontinued at any time based on business requirements or performance. **Job Summary:**
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Medical Genetics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Genetic Counseling Assistant ( GCA ). This position is part of the patient through-put team and supports the various providers in Medical Genetics, including geneticist, genetic counselors and other clinicians with administrative functions, including triaging and prepping incoming cases for geneticist and genetic counselor review. The position will include patient-facing time, including consenting for genetic testing and obtaining samples (cheek swabs) for these tests. Additional responsibilities include ordering genetic testing, entering patient data into the tracking database, coordinating and scheduling appointments, updating patients’ electronic medical records, routing telephone calls, assisting with creation of educational materials and patient letters, participating in team meetings and performance/quality improvement projects, and other duties assigned.

**Responsibilities**
**Essential Functions:**
Provide operational support for clinical research activities. Process, enter, and validate project data. Prepare, handle, distribute, file, and archive clinical documentation and paperwork. May assist with ordering, tracking, and distributing study supplies. May interact with study participants to gather or disseminate information.
1. Reviewing referrals and triaging for appropriateness to be seen.
2. Obtaining/abstracting medical records for clinical appointments.
3. Assisting with patient chart review and case preparation for genetic counselors and other clinicians, as directed.
4. Obtaining informed consent for genetic testing.
5. Assisting with coordinating genetic testing for family members for both diagnostic testing as well as research genetic testing.
6. Obtaining samples (cheek swabs) for genetic tests.
7. Coordinating and researching insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients.
8. Entering patient visit and testing data into the patient tracking database.
9. Aiding in preparation of letters of medical necessity with guidance from genetic counselor.
10. Provide patients and families with updates about insurance authorizations, decisions, and status of testing.
11. Assisting with appointment scheduling and phone inquiries related to the genetic services.
12. Assisting with patient follow-up letters regarding testing results.
13. Composing and preparing correspondence, newsletters, presentations, and additional materials as needed.
14. Performing other duties as assigned.
**Clinical Assistant, I**
Entry-level support role. Perform routine tasks as directed and under close supervision.
