The General Utility position serves as an entry-level role in the production area, encompassing a variety of duties within this job classification. This position involves general labor tasks, contributing to production operations by adhering to policies and procedures for meat processing, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations. The role requires maintaining clean and sanitary production areas and effectively communicating any issues that could lead to unsanitary conditions.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain all production areas in a clean and sanitary condition.Communicate any issues related to unsanitary conditions promptly.Remove product and packing materials from the floor.Properly dispose of and track inedible products.Separate and remove trash and recycling from production areas.Stage production area with empty containers for the next shift.Assist with preparing and disassembling equipment for operations or sanitation.Ensure proper identification and management of rework products to avoid cross-contamination.Relieve co-workers for breaks, which may involve assisting in another position.Accurately complete assigned paperwork.Assist in training new employees.Check in with the area supervisor for additional tasks before leaving at the end of the shift.Conduct visual inspection of cases to ensure proper labeling and legibility.Make necessary adjustments to machinery to ensure smooth production.Operate a manual hand jack as needed.Communicate equipment malfunctions promptly.Prepare supplies and workstations for the next shift.Stage ingredients in 50lb containers to maintain product flow.Arrange meat as instructed according to specifications.Comb, hang, transport, and stack products continuously.Inspect product quality on a conveyor belt.Perform duties accurately and efficiently.Essential SkillsDependability and attention to detail.Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Willingness to work weekends and overtime as needed.Ability to multitask in a fast-paced and safe environment.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in general labor, production, packing, or food manufacturing is beneficial.Candidates with backgrounds from companies like Kraft, Tyson, Hill & Valley are well-suited.Why Work Here?Join a new, clean facility that offers opportunities to grow into other roles. Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a manufacturing environment, with regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. Workers frequently encounter colder areas (30 degrees) and warmer temperatures. The noise level is typically high. The job demands standing and walking throughout the shift, lifting and carrying a minimum of 50 lbs, and using both hands as necessary. Employees are required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, or hear.
