General Superintendent/ PEMB Construction

The General Superintendent reports directly to the Director of Field Operations. This position is
senior level, providing oversight, and executing the tasks necessary for proper implementation
and management of steel erection related activities to assure job safety, quality and success for
projects built in or around the Tulsa area.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of methods in general construction practices.
2. Comprehensive knowledge of general construction practices, occupational hazards and
safety precautions of the metal building trade.
3. Enforces FSE, customer GC and/or project owner’s safety regulations and requirements
for all construction activities.
4. Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are accurately followed.
5. Participates in pre-construction meetings.
6. Provides coordination and supervision of all FSE Tulsa employees and subcontracted
field labor.
7. The General Superintendent will manage all on-site Superintendents, who oversee on-site
activities including but not limited to safety, scheduling, quality control, site cleanliness,
monitoring, and contractor relations.
8. Maintains and monitors job schedule as to crew, material, equipment, and coordinates
requirements with management, weekly.
9. Maintain project working schedules and develop detailed look ahead schedules for on-
site coordination.
10. Recommend corrective action should the project fall behind schedule, implement the
actions as required to minimize delay.
11. Maintains active contact with customer/GC to monitor customer satisfaction.
12. Schedule and assure delivery of materials to maintain schedule requirements.
13. Schedules sub-contractors when needed to maintain the schedule and
coordinates/implements change-orders.
14. Ability to work directly and interact with customers, architects, engineers, subcontractors,
suppliers, and office personnel.
15. Provides quality control support with onsite inspections to confirm compliance with latest
approved drawings, supplemental instructions, submittals and shop drawings.
16. Responsible for schedule, quality and customer satisfaction of a particular project or
multiple projects.
17. Coordinate and expedite resolution of all construction related challenges on site. Page 2 of 2 18. Assists with keeping the client informed as to job progress and schedules.
19. Manage, coordinate and assist with the completion of final punch list.
20. Represents the FCG & FSE image and philosophy on the jobsite: i.e., professional
conduct, fair solutions and customer service.
21. Travel to job sites daily.
22. Work occasional evenings or weekends for special situations.
23. Punctual, dependable and prepared for work each day.
24. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. (Please note this job description is not

Qualifications and Skills:
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of construction experience is required.
Specific skills needed for this position are as follows:
Analytical skills to plan a project strategy, handle unexpected issues and delays, and solve
problems that arise over the course of the project.
Business skills to address budget matters, coordinate and supervise workers.
Customer-service skills are necessary to form good working relationships with customers, sub-
contractors and vendors.
Decision making skills are needed for choices on personnel for specific tasks and job. At times,
these decisions must be made quickly to meet deadlines and budgets.
Initiative is needed to assess situations independently and act to get things done, accurately and
effectively.
Leadership skills are needed to effectively delegate tasks to construction workers,
subcontractors, and other lower level managers.
Speaking skills. Must give clear orders, explain complex information to construction workers
and clients, and discuss technical details with other building specialists, such as architects.
Technical skills. Know construction processes and must be able to interpret contracts and
technical drawings.
Time-management skills. Superintendent must meet deadlines. They ensure that construction
phases are completed on time so that the next phase can begin as scheduled.
Writing skills. Must write proposals, plans, and budgets, as well as document the progress of
the work for clients and others involved in the building process. Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has supervisory responsibilities over on-site activities.
