Job Overview

Provides on-call after hours general maintenance response to service calls at the MCAS Miramar Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs).  May perform additional general maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.  Typical month includes 2 weekday shifts that begin at 4:00pm, and end at 7:30am the next day.  One or two weekend shifts per month, depending on the rotation, which begin Friday at 4:00pm, and end on Monday at 7:00am.

 

Pay Rate - $24.83/hr

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:On-call phone must be picked up from the BEQ office at the start of the shift at 4:00pm.Respond to general maintenance service calls within 1 hour on BEQ contract, which includes plumbing, (sink clogs, toilets, etc.) HVAC, lock battery replacements, lighting, pest, and other general bachelor quarter housing issues.If a call is received, the GMW receives one hour for equipment pick up, and one hour for equipment drop off.Weekday shift begins at 4:00pm, and ends at 7:30am the next day. Weekend shift start at 4:00pm on Fridays, and end at 7:30am the following Monday.Follow established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing that pertain to particular trades and skills.Ensure proper housekeeping practices are observed.Perform duties in a timely, cost effective manner.

Accountable For:

Timely, cost effective performance of duties.Timely completion and accuracy of all work.Adherence to contract requirements and DBSI policies.Working closely and harmoniously with fellow workers.Adherence to all safety and health rules and regulations.
Job Requirements

Mandatory:

Working knowledge of maintenance craft tools.Ability to utilize computer tablet to view work orders or look up parts.The ability to read and interpret plans, schematics, specifications, operating and maintenance manuals, codes, and regulations.Hands-on experience with various hand tools and power tools, including knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and safety factors.Must possess the ability to perform assigned work tasks without more than normal supervision.High School Diploma, or equivalent.Valid Ca driver’s license.U.S. Citizen.Successfully pass background check and drug test.

 

 Preferred:

Formal training through apprenticeship or vocational school

 

Work Environment:

Work is performed mostly indoors.  Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.Work hours are subject to change, with weekend work or long hours as needed.Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hard and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces

 

Physical Demands:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
