Job Title: General Laborer
Job Description

An asphalt and concrete upcycling yard in Oakland is seeking dedicated general laborers. The yard is a high-traffic area with dump trucks and heavy equipment operators. As a laborer, you will be responsible for sorting through dumped asphalt and by-products to be upcycled into various products such as peak gravel, drain rock, and base rock. This involves working on a large industrial conveyor system, handling materials that pass through heavy machinery like the jaw crusher. The work environment is outdoors and can be muddy and dusty, requiring full personal protective equipment (PPE) including a ventilated mask, hard hat, glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots. Attention to detail is crucial, as each product is unique with significant value. Training will be provided for identifying materials such as wood and rebar, and handling hazardous materials like asbestos.

ResponsibilitiesSort and identify materials on the conveyor system.Direct vehicle and equipment movement safely within the yard.Perform flagging duties to ensure smooth traffic flow and prevent accidents.Inspect incoming and outgoing loads for safety, compliance, and accuracy.Shovel and water down the yard after each load to maintain cleanliness and dust control.Operate Bobcats for yard maintenance and material handling (10% of duties).Use Gradalls for lifting, grading, or excavation tasks within the yard (5% of duties).Essential SkillsExperience in production, warehouse, or industrial settings.Proficiency with hand and power tools.Knowledge of traffic control and safety protocols.Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors.Must have a clean DMV record.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in construction is beneficial.Experience in equipment operation is useful for advancement to heavy equipment roles.Why Work Here?

The facility includes a bustling yard with heavy machinery and fast-paced operations, akin to a Nascar construction site. Employees work amidst dirt, dust, and loud noises, contributing to a dynamic and essential team in a family-owned business. The shift runs from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, with overtime available.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Oakland, California.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
