Caterpillar is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern – NC Programmer to support CNC programming and machining process development within a production manufacturing environment.

This role provides hands-on experience working with NC programs, tooling strategies, and continuous improvement activities while aligning with Caterpillar’s values and competency framework.
 

Key Responsibilities

Support development, modification, and verification of NC programs for CNC machining centers

Assist with tool path optimization for cycle time, tool life, and surface finish

Participate in CNC prove-out activities under supervision

Support documentation of machining processes, setup sheets, and standard work

Collaborate with engineers, programmers, and operators to resolve basic machining issues

Adhere to Caterpillar safety, quality, and manufacturing standards

Required Qualifications

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in manufacturing engineering
Mechanical Engineering, or related field

Ability to work 40 hours ONSITE in Lafayette IN during SUMMER 2026 Semester, with possible extension to Part-time during FALL 2026 (10 – 15 hours onsite)

Basic understanding of CNC machining and NC programming concepts

Ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T fundamentals

Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn in a manufacturing environment

Summary Pay Range:

$25.00 - $43.00

Intern Hour Rate:

An intern's hourly rate is based on the major/degree being pursued and the number of completed academic hours achieved before the start of the internship.
