Job Title: FPGA Design Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled FPGA Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will have expertise in developing and integrating FPGA solutions, particularly using Intel/Altera Cyclone V FPGAs, and will play a key role in modernizing our existing FPGA architecture. This position offers the flexibility of remote work with occasional onsite visits.

Responsibilities

Instantiate and bring up the Neos (Nios) processor inside the Cyclone V FPGA.Interface the embedded processor to existing FPGA modules.Wrap existing design functions around the new processor-based core.Develop communication interfaces such as the I²C bus for board level communication.Support HDL simulation, timing verification, and Quartus environment integration.Aid in testing using the final form factor hardware platform.

Essential Skills

Expertise with Intel/Altera Cyclone V FPGAs.Experience instantiating and integrating Nios/Neos embedded processors.Experience in HDL (VHDL or Verilog) design, simulation, and verification.Proficiency in Quartus for development, timing closure, and modeling.Experience integrating FPGA logic with processor-based architectures.Ability to wrap existing design modules around a new processor core.Comfort working in C for embedded processor interactions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Prior avionics, aerospace, defense, or ruggedized hardware experience.Experience supporting hardware bring up on custom flight hardware boards.Familiarity with timing margin considerations for extreme thermal environments.Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight.

Work Environment

This position is 100% remote, with the possibility of occasional onsite visits in the PA/Doylestown region. The role requires a commitment of 10–20 hours per week, with collaboration including meetings with engineering team members based in PA and on the West Coast.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Furlong, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75.00 - $85.00/hr.
