What you will be doing
The Own Brands Technical Services Department has an opening for a Food Science Technical Services Associate.
The Food Science Technical Services Associate provides support to the Own Brands Technical Services team operations activities. Manage product registrations, and work with suppliers to complete registration tasks in a state or local county, as required. Support the review and approval of In-Store (Bakery, Deli, Meat & Seafood, Produce, and other applicable categories) products technical information to ensure all packaging information meets applicable federal and state regulations. Maintain digital compliance of all Own Brands products, including support to facilitate review and approval of labeling information in different systems to maintain the chain of custody of documents received directly from suppliers. This position is critical to ensure company product labeling has the information necessary to comply with compliance requirements. Other data maintenance projects will be secondary responsibilities, including supporting our Product Development staff, as needed. Conduct and deliver other projects as assigned by the Technical Services Leadership team, in relation to product development and regulatory & quality compliance commitment.
Main responsibilities:
Manage regulatory registrations, certifications, and product information platforms. Review and approve ingredients and finished products in different food labeling systems. Communicate with division partners and suppliers on approval status as well as on missing ingredient and finished product information. Perform quarterly audits in the system to ensure compliance with FDA menu labeling regulation. Confirm all documents’ required fields as determined by the product type are completed. Support the Regulatory teams in data acquisition for other projects as required to maintain accuracy of data within agreed upon project timelines. Utilize various business platforms and/or systems to provide support to the Regulatory teams in the form of trackers and status reports, and mining data for Regulatory metrics reporting. Update tracking tools used for compliance program to provide updates on progress and challenges. Provide information to other team members as requested. Provide information and data to the management team for other projects as required to maintain accuracy of data within agreed upon project timelines. Provide support and act as back-up resource to help with regulatory analytics and metrics reporting as well as product registrations. Assist with other key Technical Services product development or regulatory projects, as neededWe are looking for candidates who possess the following:
BS/BA degree in Food Science is preferred or related field. Experience in content management for regulatory systems (Specright, Optiva, Genesis, Smart Label), ensuring accurate information and processes are maintained in the systems. Require a good understanding and application of US labeling regulations (USDA, FDA, EPA) to assure the accuracy of ingredient statements, nutrition facts, allergen declarations and claims. Minimum of 2 years of technical support requiring document preparation and tracking; compliance work within retail industry is preferred. Must have proficiency with MS Office and technical data entry. Experience in working directly with a technical functional group is preferred. Must be comfortable with asking questions and having direct discussions of project requirements with peers, supervisors, and product development personnel up to the VP level. Must be able to interface directly with product suppliers to obtain compliance information requests and to meet project timelines. Strong communication skills (verbal, email, and face to face) are required. Must be able to communicate cross functionally between directors, managers, technical staff and vendor community daily.We also provide a variety of benefits including:
